Resumen del Editor

"My name is Liv (not Olivia). I'm not technically a girl. I'm transgender. Which is a bit like being a transformer. Only not quite as cool because I probably won't get to save the world one day."

Liv knows he was always meant to be a boy, but with his new school's terrible dress code, he can't even wear pants. Only skirts. Operation Pants Project begins!

The only way for Liv to get what he wants is to go after it himself. But to Liv, this isn't just a mission to change the policy - it's a mission to change his life. And that's a pretty big deal.

A great book!

I really enjoyed this book. At first I wasn’t so sure, but then when I started listening, I knew it was going to be great. I highly recommend it!

Broadly relatable highly recommend

Yes this story centers a main who is trans but the timing of the story (adolescence/middle school) renders that particular but one of the many struggles with identity typical of humans in that age range. First person narrator A+ choice imo. As a parent, I loled a few times. Listened along with my 6 year old son and he seemed to take away what I would have hoped - this is a story about how people behave in school for better or worse, the friendship part of the story was rly sweet (his words), and the bulllying made him indignant because the character development did a good job of making Liv and their family real and relatable. The length was just right, the pacing was good throughout. I was on the fence with this one for a while because I want to make sure our family reads broad perspectives but in an age-appropriate way for a 6 year old (disclaimer: he reads at a 4th grade level). Zero regrets. Highly recommend.

Inspiring story!

Though fiction, I am sure there are lots of people who can relate to this story.
Julia Whelan does a superb job narrating - as always!

narrator too old

this was a really cute story that stayed very much g rated for the subject matter and i think the author did an excellent job of makine it a fiction book and not some boring nonfiction informative book on the subject. you really wanted to keep reading all the way till the end. i love that she made a friiend for life after losing her best friend. i mean seriously losing a best friend is tough on a young girl and i really felt bad, but her new friend was a boy and for a moment i thought uh oh they are going to start having puppy crush feelings and i was like ok im done with this book. but actually they didnt even broach that subject so i was very glad they didnt. middle school even though it happens anyway is far too young for puppy love crushes. i dont know if how the new friend reacted to the news is realistic. i seriously thought he would either freak out and then be ok or he would just say ok and justhave a bunch of questions and then be ok. but its just a story so it was really nice of the author to make that part of the story go perfectly fine. i was a little shockedthat the girl had 2 moms. that barely has anythingt o do with ehr as a person although they did make one comment that maybe it did, but seriously im not against it i just didnt understand why that specifically needed to be part of the story. i loved that she had 2 moms. it reminded me of "the fosters" tv show. i sort of wondered a little bit about the background though. i mean was she adopted or is she a product of one of the mom's former failed relationships with a man? they never said exactly. i hate to know the truth that kids really are like their parents because they only have their parents as an example on how to learn and how to react. so yes there are people out there as mean as the bully inthis story and seriously even though she makes you mad, it really adds that extra upph to the story. i mean every story needs a little bit of trouble i guess to keep the readers still wanting to read. but the point of what i wanted to say for this post is that the narrator is the same voice that narrates all of "the sweep" series i loved so much and thats for older teens and certainly not middle schoolers. in the series the girl is 16 or 17,but in real life im sure the narrator is somewhere in ehr 20's so that makes sense. but this story is supposed to make her 11 going on 12 and so a 20 something year old just did not fit the image of what you would want to hear. get past that and the story is great. well written and well laid out. easy to follow and love. if anyone is dealing with the situations in this story and you are at a young age and need help i higly reccomend this book. just ignore the narrator's too old voice.

We loved this book!

This story reflected our family and we loved how the main character grew into his self in a powerful way. Also a great story about young people strengthening their voice and dealing with bullies.

Wonderful story that highlights a family that may differ from your own. Speaks to the importance of having a best friend that sticks with you through anything. I will be recommending this book to my sixth graders!

Rainbow Children, UNITE!

This wonderful story about bravery, courage, and celebrating differences is a must read for people of all ages. Narrated by my favorite, Julia Whelan, this book is a must read/listen. Julia always brings life to each and every character.
Cat Clarke expertly navigates subject matter, who for educators like me, may be hesitant to offer in a public school library.
All libraries should have this book on their shelves!
