Of the six confirmed murders in the county over the past several years, four of the victims had last been seen at the Ox Head. None of the four murders had ever been solved. The other two murders in the county had been the result of domestic violence against men and both women were now in the state prison system. There were also a couple of women who had been reported missing over the years – but most people figured they were just tired of their husbands and ran off with other men.
At thirty-two years of age, Cecilia had lived in the county her whole life and had been going to the Ox Head since she was 17. Of course, the bar had changed owners and names several times during the past 15 years, but the crowd remained the same. After the last murder occurred, about three years ago, the owners closed the bar and put it up for sale.
Now the bar was reopening. Jerry and Susan, the new owners, were determined to make people feel safe at the bar. They would not put up with any fights. They would bar someone for life for the slightest infraction. They hired a bouncer and were always present in the evening hours.
Cecilia was excited when she heard the bar was reopening. She had always been careful when she went there. Her rules were: never go alone, don’t drink too much, and only leave with the person who brought you. She and her friends had lived by these rules at all the bars they went to, and it had kept them out of trouble.
What follows is the story of the terror that Cecilia would find herself in, when she didn’t follow the rules.
