Full of (cribbed?) advice from uncited sources, unsupported by any visible research on the actual behavior of “old money” people. In fact there is no definition of who these people are. The advice on the whole constructive and responsible, but it is also cliche, and ventures into areas where it becomes pretty clear that the author has no personal expertise and appears to be recycling commonplaces through a mist of ambiguity (estate planning, investments, perhaps higher education). For example, Harvard stopped being an “old money” university in the 1960’s if admission policies are a criterion. A stroll through the campus would inform any tourist of this…
Please, sirs, may I have my credit back?
To make things worse, the text is long winded and the reader is a bit of a virago, so it isn’t even unintentionally funny.

Lack of research, and the obscurity of the writer.

Listening about your food section was a joke you’re limited research shows and your lack of a cumin did you know that filtered water of a recent study concludes it does not remove Ponsett cancer agents also you went a little bit overboard on the cosmetic deal and you disenfranchise half of your audience by going on and on and on your financial information is good but you need to clip it a little bit but thanks that you have no idea about

Overall OK let’s stick to the narrative thanks that you know nothing about stairway make you look stupid

I didn't care for all the Rona propaganda in the second version. The first edition is far superior.

Tully emphasizes quality of life over standard of living; which appears to be the stark difference between old money and nouveau riche. He provides practical advice on education, relationships, travel, wardrobe, furnishings, etc. This book serves as a general guide to those who are new to these concepts and a great refresher for those who are already familiar.

One critique is that the “Post-Covid” advice in this expanded edition is a bit “wokish”; perhaps, smug even. But, don’t let that deter you! It’s still a useful read.

Practical Principles for a More Fulfilling Life

I was hoping for more detailed information on strategies, insights, or even a behind the scenes look into old money homes and habits. Instead, the author breaks the book into chapters discussing topics he’s not qualified to cover, including health, nutrition, education, and parenting. I’m a licensed nutritionist, so I’m legally qualified, parent, and educator, so I actually am qualified. His references to Covid-19 (the book was published in 2020) should be edited out. They’re now irrelevant and frankly, none of us who lived through it need to rehear the drones of “new normal,” “unprecedented times,” etc.

Mostly it’s a collection of his thoughts and opinions. If you’re starting from absolute ground zero with regard to how to improve your life, this might be for you. Generally speaking, work hard, save for your children’s education, send them to the North East for education, and follow health guidelines from the US government and bogus organizations like the AHA. Save your credit.

I wasn’t looking for a parenting book.

Within the first hour of listening the author touched on a few topics of which I have knowledge and experience. After hearing a few false statements I have no interest in listening further.

I call malarkey

An anthem for Covid-19, mixed with ideas in direct conflict with old money like Tiny Houses, childless adulthood, and renting. The whole thing stinks of a Dave Ramsey meets Gary Vaynerchuck story. Ideas that lead to renting for life, ending up divorced, seeing the kids on weekends, and living the least productive life ever.

I am lost how the title relates to anyone actual experience of an old money family. Nothing about financial knowledge, family dedication, or personal branding - all things OM families understand and train their children about starting at birth.

Spend your time reading/listening about Trust Funds, family constitutions, child development, and manners and etiquette. Mixed with a few “old money” YouTube videos about fashion and decor to round things out.

This book really misses the mark, just like its predicted future after COVID… thank goodness.

The most non old money, book titled old money.
