Resumen del Editor

From the author of the breakout thriller Every Last Fear, comes Alex Finlay's electrifying next audiobook The Night Shift, about a pair of small-town murders 15 years apart - and the ties that bind them.

“The night was expected to bring tragedy.” So begins one of the most highly-anticipated thrillers in recent years.

It’s New Year’s Eve 1999. Y2K is expected to end in chaos: planes falling from the sky, elevators plunging to earth, world markets collapsing. A digital apocalypse. None of that happens. But at a Blockbuster Video in New Jersey, four teenagers working late at the store are attacked. Only one inexplicably survives. Police quickly identify a suspect, the boyfriend of one of the victims, who flees and is never seen again.

Fifteen years later, more teenage employees are attacked at an ice cream store in the same town, and again only one makes it out alive.

In the aftermath of the latest crime, three lives intersect: the lone survivor of the Blockbuster massacre who’s forced to relive the horrors of her tragedy; the brother of the fugitive accused, who’s convinced the police have the wrong suspect; and FBI agent Sarah Keller who must delve into the secrets of both nights - stirring up memories of teen love and lies - to uncover the truth about murders on the night shift.

Twisty, poignant, and redemptive, The Night Shift is a story about the legacy of trauma and how the broken can come out on the other side, and it solidifies Finlay as one of the new leading voices in the world of thrillers.

Like listening to an episode of law& order SVU

This book had both nostalgia & true crime! I loved thinking back to the late nineties and early 2000’s to a time before cell phones and social media. Made it harder to crack these cases when teens weren’t posting their every move on the internet. The narrator’s were good… the one sounds like the teacher from the 90’s show Daria, which only added to the nostalgia. Overall good book and it kept me engaged and thinking I knew what was happening when really I had no clue.

Great Mystery Story

I enjoyed this one as the characters were designed to be more realistic, as opposed to the gritty hardboiled tobacco-addicted detectives. The story takes place between 1999 and 2015. There are plenty of nostalgic references. The clue trail builds up across the story. It follows a good formula with a very satisfying ending.

Good story, okay narration

Narration took away from the story a bit. Can’t put my finger on it but reminded me of a parent reading to a child. A bit dramatic/contrived. Not terrible but could have been better.

Great book- highly recommend

Some of the ending was a bit predictable but would still absolutely recommend. I really felt invested in the characters and enjoyed the multiple character/narrator aspect. Well done and very enjoyable.

one problem

There were 4 narrators in the book, and 3 were excellent, and 1 was really hard to listen to. after awhile 1 increased the speed of the problematic one. too bad bc the story was pretty good, and the other three narrators were top-notch.

Solid Bathroom Reading

A whole lot of twists and turns for a mediocre ending. The story jumps around way too much, preparing the reader for an epic conclusion. It certainly has its moments, but in all I was disappointed. Solid B-

Really Good Story….BUT

The story itself is really good. Definitely would recommend.

BUT, I would recommend you read this one. The audio alone is shotty, and you mix that with one of the narrators (I’m not going to single out which one, but read other reviews and you’ll know) and you get an experience that could’ve been better.

Really enjoyed the story.

Really Good Book but...

Whichever woman narrated the part of the FBI agent really ruined that character. Over-enunciating words, and being overly dramatic when it wasn't necessary so that when their was drama with that character, listening to the narrator had me rolling my eyes and fast forwarding through the dialog. Maybe don't hire that person tor narrate anymore of these books.
