Mike Vendetti
A beautiful woman imagines she is married below her station. In an effort to make her happy, her husband brings home an invitation to a ball attended by the upper crust of Paris society. To his chagrin, she is only disappointed, and explains she has nothing to wear to the ball. The husband sacrifices his savings to buy her a dress. She has no jewelry, but she has a wealthy friend who will lend her a beautiful accoutrement to accompany the beautiful dress. She dances madly, drunk with pleasure: her time has come. She is the belle of the ball. It is the happiest night of her life, until they arrive at home and the necklace is missing…
Public Domain (P)2013 Mike Vendettimany times at the end of a sentence. I have two copies of this short story, and when I listen to a book, I also have the book in front of me and follow along as it is being read. In this manner, I enjoy the book so much more. Mike Vendetti was appalling in his narration as he decided to substitute many words or omit words as they were written in this wonderful short story. He had no right to change one word or omit one word from this story--this is disgraceful. Apparently, no one listens to any of the narrations after they are completed. Guy de Maupassant is a wonderful author of short stories and to have his story narrated by Mike Vendetti is an insult to the author--who is he to change any word that an author has written. This is unabridged, but that is not the way Mr. Vendetti read the story. Shame on him.
I have listened to many books from Audible books and the narrators are great and bring the stories to life. This is the first time I found the narration so distasteful. Hopefully, he will give up narrating any more books.
