Do we still believe that during Mass God is really present and works mysteriously, often in a silent way in our soul?
I am sad to admit that at certain times in my life there were Masses to which I just went. I never thought back then that I could use Jesus' sacrifice for myself or for anyone else; sincerely, with love and trust. And whenever I found myself in particular problems, I would put my trust in God, but only by means of some other devotions and prayers. At the Holy Mass, we will receive as much grace as we have, with the help of His Spirit, opened to and disposed our hearts towards it (CCC 1128). The closer we come to Him, the more we will be blessed, fulfilled and satisfied.
What do Church documents tell us?
With a little effort, we can find many Church documents which offer us all the necessary information on participating fully and fruitfully, but those documents do not explain how to achieve this. For example, such documents tell us that we must prepare if we want to participate “fully and fruitfully”, but do not tell us in what way. They tell us that “our minds should be in harmony with our voices” and we should “cooperate with the fullness of grace”, but in what way? Also, that “how much we will receive depends very much on our disposition at the Holy Mass” but we are not told whether this information is available somewhere nor how to attain that very disposition. Therefore, it is difficult to find literature which gives a satisfactory answer to the question on how to work towards attaining these dispositions.
My experience
In this book, I have tried to present my own experience after years of searching, studying and meditating on the liturgy, as well as my own participation in the Mass over the years. I am aware that the Holy Mass is an inexhaustible well for meditation and that there is so much more that I still have to discover and experience, but a part of what I have already discovered and experienced I wish to offer to you, my dear readers, for you to think about.
The first part of the book underlines, also with personal testimonies, the infinity of treasures found in the Holy Mass, and God’s deep desire to make us actively partake of it and His longing desire to touch us through this sacrament. The second part of the book is widely focused on prayers we can pray and meditate in order to prepare for the Eucharistic celebration; and there are different prayers to suit different intentions that we come with to the Holy Mass.
Who is this book for?
The book is aimed at anyone for whom, for whatever reason, the Mass has not become the deepest longing of the soul. If it has not become the true spiritual experience for you, the true fountain and centre of spirituality, then this book is definitely for you. I am convinced that this book will be useful to those who find themselves in situations of need. We can put them all under the umbrella term of situations where only God can help. It will be very useful to those who are willing to stay close to those in need and be intercessors before God.
