Life isn't always a big deal. When they say something, they don't make a lot of noise or drama. It's not clear when they will start or end. They could show up without making a sound. Of being aware that one has been careful. In a careful way, not wrongly or pointlessly. Thought about. Took care of. Held. Not okaying it.
Life may look like it's going on around you for years. Each day has a set plan. People choose what to do because they have to, not because they want to. People talk about lies that are only partly true. You don't just leave your dreams on the shelves. They are turned off. It turns into the norm.
That's why it's risky. You can find pain without much trouble. You have to deal with pain. The pain goes away. Pain makes us change. Someone could be sad for a long time, though, and no one would know.
It wasn't very interesting to learn about the main character in this story. Not someone who is broken, brave, or different. Someone who has mostly lived their life following the rules. Following the rules. Do not mess up. Being careful. Making sure not to do too much. Like every year, it began early. A life that was full of risks. A stable family. Teachers who told kids it was good to follow the rules.
