What every grunt wanted to hear

While not perfect, with a few errors this story is a great military look at Star Wars. As a vet, I have come to see Star Wars battles much differently than I did as a child seeing the original trilogy.

I loved the background history on resource material and other authors.

Excellent for most part but several extreme fails

Author needs to fact check himself before having book published.

Constantly referred to battle of 2nd Death Star as occurring in Empire Strikes Back. Also constantly referring to the Separatist Droid army as the Empire in the Battle of Naboo.

Makes me question his other facts though at least the other Star Wars details were correct.

Also apparently author has forgotten his Civil War history. Jar Jar being made a general no different than inexperienced political generals back then.

Finally while Jaws was released in the USA on 7/20/75, Star Wars release date which author got right in the end but not the intro is 5/25/77. Author states both Jaws & Star Wars released right after each other and a month following the end of the Vietnam War which was 4/30/75.

Final note, the narrator, Robert Petkoff, did an amazing job. Looking forward to hearing more from him in the future.

My first review simply out of hatred for the book

The writer clearly only has a basic knowledge of Star Wars. They consistently get things wrong, wether it’s stating that the battle of Naboo takes place in Attack of the Clones, or that the Empire were the ones to invade Naboo. These mistakes are constant and grating for someone who knows and loves the lore.

There is almost no real analysis of actual tactics used in the battle. It mostly talks about how women can be soldiers too and how Jyn zeros is amazing, or that samurai are the inspiration for Jedi (he goes over that twice, I cannot fathom why). It’s honestly just hours of wasted time, if you want actual battle analysis or an overview of tactics and military equipment in Star Wars, then look elsewhere. This is likely the worst source possible for every conceivable reason.

A very well done take on Star Wars.

Surprised this wasn't done before, but, glad it was. Approaching Star Wars from a military stand point is impressive, and well put together. Hope this sort of thing is, or has been done for other science fiction things.

Don't waste your time...

Listened to this during a road trip and it might be the worst thing I’ve heard...ever. It sounded like this was a beer induced discussion among middle-aged friends on a Friday night. The book was frustrating, overly simplistic, and sometimes plain wrong. I felt like this was a random compilation of thoughts. I applaud the author and honor his service, but many of his military examples were dated. I thought this might provide an analogy to use in teaching. I was wrong. If you want to get a look at how Star Wars and the US military intersect visit the Modern War Institute or The Strategy Bridge. There are a couple articles that get into it. Really was hoping for something more - saw Star Wars at the drive-in as a kid...

Wow, this book is salty and ignorant AF

The author has not one ounce of love for anything Star Wars, nor wants to. He does not go out of his way to understand anything other than a cursory glance from the movies and some of the technical books.

As others have mentioned, he mistakes planets, characters, movies and misses in totality the spirit of the franchise.

Why even write this book? You cleary don't like Star Wars and clearly do not do even the minimum of your research topic.

It's like he wrote this just to feel superior about his military experience and poorly relate it to a sci-fi franchise he doesn't want to understand.

If you haven't decided by now, DO NOT buy or listen to this audio book. It is the worst I have ever come across.
