The Messengers and the Forgotten Choice is one of those rare books that blends imaginative storytelling with deep spiritual insight. Obadiah Dalrymple has crafted a compelling narrative that pulled me in from the first chapter and didn’t let go.

The story follows Micah Jones, an ordinary young man who suddenly finds himself caught in the middle of an unseen spiritual battle. What I loved most was how the book explores themes like free will, temptation, and divine purpose without feeling preachy. The supernatural elements are vivid and powerful, yet grounded in Biblical truth. I bought this book for the story (I like supernatural books on angels and demons), but was surprised to find so much Biblical Theology and Christian apologetics. Makes more sense now that I know Dalrymple is a pastor. Honestly, this book is a good resource for anyone struggling with the problem of evil in the world. I.e., how can a good God exist when there is so much evil, pain, and suffering?

Dalrymple’s writing is accessible and engaging, with characters that feel real and moments that linger in your mind long after you’ve turned the last page. It reminded me in some ways of This Present Darkness or even the movie Constantine, but with a fresh and personal (and more Biblically accurate) perspective.

On the negative side, the AI voice, while not bad at all (has gotten a lot better since the first AI voice-read book I listened to), still had several moments where it jacked up the verbal pauses.

The only other critique I have is that there weren’t many mentions of the power of the Holy Spirit—they were subtle and implied.

Highly recommend for teens, young adults, or anyone who enjoys Christian fiction with depth.
