Resumen del Editor

"A love for sex and poetry were the only things my daughter got out of college," an elderly lady says. Now, she runs an escort service. One of her girls was murdered last year. Did my daughter have anything to do with it? Scott Kaven, a former Houston homicide detective turned private eye, takes on the case involving a Green Bay, Wisconsin, escort service and its striking owner. With the confidence and experience of a successful cop, a smart ass attitude, and a sharp sense of humor of his own, Kaven gets things done. He gets past the logjam the law enforcement couldn't surmount but he also finds himself on a hit list because of his involvement in the case. Full of action and mystery, this first of a new series is an exciting start for a set of engaging characters.

Always enjoy a good P.I. Story

This was a fun story to listen to. Took a short time to get used to the reader, but next thing I knew, he was the perfect voice.

Nice Start to Hopefully a Series

Would you try another book from Jack R. Stanley and/or Daniel Dorse?

I believe a narrator can make or break an audio book and with this one, Daniel Dorse definitely enhances the quality of the story. I actually have another book read by Daniel Dorse on my wish list called "Blister." Now that I'm familiar with this narrators style, I'm definitely going to get it. The narrator reminds me of Will Paton (love him), who reads many of Stephen King's books.
As for my thoughts on this book, I would say its packed with action and some steady mystery, and a few interesting characters. Its a good "whodunnit" story that will keep you guessing. It starts off very dark and I loved that but would have liked even more. I didn't guess the ending ahead of time which was great. It's a good choice for anyone going on a short road trip that wants to keep their mind entertained for a few hours.

Would you be willing to try another book from Jack R. Stanley? Why or why not?

Definitely, I would read another story about this detective if the author releases more and makes it a series. The main character is a private eye who really knows how to defend himself, I would say the world is his oyster in that regard... the story could really blossom from here.

What aspect of Daniel Dorse’s performance would you have changed?

I don' t think he could change much, he sounded the part of an older retired detective although I didn't enjoy his voice as much when he spoke as a female.

Did The Lovecraft Murders inspire you to do anything?

Not really, I love reading gritty, dark mysteries. This satisfied some of the cravings for sure. I guess it inspired me to go find my next "listen."

Any additional comments?

The Lovecraft Murders

The Lovecraft Murders
: Jack R. Stanley

Former homicide detective turned private eye investigates the murder of an escort. The group of characters that populate this book range from escorts, cops, former military, all the way to the Russian Mob. There is plenty of suspense, a few mysteries , and some romance to round out the story. I look forward to seeing where this series goes.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed. Daniel Dorse voice fits the storyline.

A Short, But Good Debut P.I. Novel

I found “The Lovecraft Murders.” to be a pretty decent who-done-it from author Jack R. Stanley. Scott Kaven is a former Houston, Texas homicide detective. Now a private investigator, Kaven takes on a case involving an escort service. The story is on the short side so it moves fast with a satisfying amount of action in it. But where the book really shines, in my opinion, is with Daniel Dorse’s narration. Mr. Dorse has one of those voices that was meant for audiobook work. It also surprised me in the beginning because it is a mature voice that, at first, made me assume the lead character was a much older man. My mistake. In any event, Mr. Dorse’s voice, as well as his narration skills, just pull you into this story. I definitely enjoyed “The Lovecraft Murders” and look forward to the next book in the Scott Kaven mystery series.

Good story, original plot

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher. I was pleasantly surprised by this book. The plot was pretty original and it kept me guessing as to who the killer was and why. It was fast paced and had just the right amount of back story and detail given for what was going on. The story was very well written. The narrator was easy to listen to. It was well worth my time.
