In this astute mix of cultural critique and biblical studies, John H. Walton presents and defends twenty propositions supporting a literary and theological understanding of Genesis 1 within the context of the ancient Near Eastern world and unpacks its implications for our modern scientific understanding of origins.

Ideal for students, professors, pastors, and lay listeners with an interest in the intelligent design controversy and creation-evolution debates, Walton's thoughtful analysis unpacks seldom appreciated aspects of the biblical text and sets Bible-believing scientists free to investigate the question of origins.

The books in the Lost World series follow the pattern set by Bible scholar John H. Walton, bringing a fresh, close interpretation of the Hebrew text and knowledge of ancient Near Eastern literature to an accessible discussion of the biblical topic at hand, using a series of logic-based propositions.

This book very eloquently and clearly states lays out issues with a materialistic interpretations of Genesis. A position that I’ve thought had very serious problems and seemed to miss the point of the text. This book offers a beautiful interpretation of Genesis that really gets at the purpose behind Genesis.

I love the interpretation and concepts presented, love the framework of letting the text speak for itself and judging the text my its original audience. The only thing I would change is that reading the references doesn't translate well to audio books.

He lays it out very clearly. Would love to see this as the standard approach for Genesis teaching.

Very thoughtful and faithful approach to Scripture

Basic take aways for me is that we should believe in science. We should also believe that God created all things, including science. Also, there was creation before Adam and Eve and creation is an ongoing function with God in control. I loved this book and I loved hearing John Walton speak recently. This all makes so much sense. Thank you Mr. Walton!
