The children set out to find their mother, only to learn that she does not wish to be found. And Henry must weigh an unusual proposition, the consequences of which may cost him everything.

Good Book Poor Read

I really enjoyed the story line in "The Lost Mother" but being a Vermonter by birth; the accent (faked or otherwise) grated on my ear! This is one story that I wished that I had read instead of listened to.

Good story but too much profanity

Really enjoyed the storyline. Very touching and I was hoping the children would find their happy ending. Narration was wonderful, the singing was a real treat . Three stars for the language. Sorry, but not a fan of that.

Totally captivated me.

What an excellent audiobook! The story grabs you from the beginning. You will be tempted to listen straight through in one sitting to learn the fate of these two Depression-era children. The reader is actress Judith Light and she gives a wonderful performance. She uses a different, distinct voice for each character. The author has written a wonderful story. Audible, please give us more books by Mary McGarry-Morris!

Wonderful Narration

I loved the book and the narration as well. The story is hard to put down and the characters are well developed... side note the narrator is NOT the Judith from Growing Pains...

This story was so touching. I could feel the children’s feelings, it was written so well. I love this author.

Pain and love

I finished in one day it was such a beautifully written story of the pain children suffer through when it comes to their parents. I could relate on so many levels. I definitely recommend to anyone who as a child suffered the loss of a parent or parents.

Fantastic!

I do not read these types of books, when this one came up free, I gave it a try and I am so glad I did! what an amazing story, the narrator is THE best, she has an incredible talent and it was very clear which character she was narrating. probably the first narrator that had such an incredible range with character voices, very impressive.
This story was sad, funny, weird, etc. it covered all feelings and then some. I was so in to this that it felt like I was there watching this play out. the ending....I wasn't expecting that big of a jump...well, I won't say anything that would ruin it for someone else. I cried and didn't want it to end, but... I can see why. did. a beautiful story and I'm now a fan of this author

Poignant

This is a beautifully written and well read book. I cared very much about these children and their situation and look forward to other Mary McGarry Morris' books.
