Resumen del Editor

"A thriller packed with nonstop action, real-life name-dropping and enough cutting-edge science to make you wonder how much of it could be true." —Kirkus Reviews

The second entry in the sizzling international thriller series featuring Nicholas Drummond, from #1 New York Times bestselling author Catherine Coulter.

Freshly minted FBI agent Nicholas Drummond is barely out of his Quantico training when he and his partner, Mike Caine, are called to investigate a stabbing on Wall Street.

Their investigation, however, yields more questions than answers. It quickly becomes clear that the victim, John Pearce, was more than the naval historian and antiquities dealer he appeared to be. What Drummond doesn’t know is that buying and selling rare books was Pearce’s cover, and that he had devoted his life to discovering the whereabouts of a missing World War I U-boat concealing a stash of gold bullion, and an unexpected surprise that only raises more questions. When Drummond and Caine find both of Pearce’s adult children have disappeared, the case assumes a new sense of urgency. The FBI agents know their best lead lies in the victim’s cryptic final words—“The key is in the lock.” But what key? What lock?

The search for Adam and Sophia Pearce takes them on an international manhunt, which threatens to run them afoul of an eccentric billionaire industrialist with his own plans not only for the lost gold, but the creation of a weapon unlike anything the world has ever seen.

Gratuitous S&M, really?

Would you try another book from Catherine Coulter and J. T. Ellison and/or Renee Raudman and MacLeod Andrews ?

Perhaps, but they will need less cardboard characterizations in the book.

What was most disappointing about Catherine Coulter and J. T. Ellison ’s story?

The main villain was one dimensional and the whole gratuitous S&M side of him was a bore.

Have you listened to any of Renee Raudman and MacLeod Andrews ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have and they did an excellent job with a story and characters that could have been stronger.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No.

Any additional comments?

This book had a lot of potential that never really developed. The characters are interesting but were portrayed as stereotypes which wasn't necessary. The story was interesting but because the characters were so predictable the story became rather predictable and uninteresting.

Narrators Are Boring... Wanted to enjoy this read

I really wanted to enjoy this story. I enjoyed the first book in this series, but found the narration a big odd, what I mean is.. these characters are supposed to sound interesting, energetic and fairly young. The female narrator sounded like she was in her 60"s.

I could not stay focused on this book, I may have to read it to fully get the gist of the story.

I love the blend of history w/ issues of today!

I love the two narrator concept in this Mike @ Nicholas series. I cannot wait to hear the next one in the series. Actually I found out I had read these out of order but it was great to put all the back stories together.

Cinema Worthy

This thriller and The Final Cut read as if they were movies. You visualize the action. The characters are believable and likable. I am looking forward to the relationship development of the agents. The actual story line is a little far fetched but, it keeps the action going and you begin to think on the larger issue being addressed.

Well done

First Catherine Coulter book for me. The story was a bit much, but it was so well performed I couldn't wait to come back for more. I really enjoyed having both a male and a female performer. Made the rather long story move quickly. Is you are looking for a good summer read for working it the yard or that long drive check this out.

A Brit in the FBI, book 2

Overall, I liked the audio book. It took a while for me to warm up to the female performer. I'm not sure if it was because she seemed to be talking her lines rather than acting them, or if it was because it sounded unnatural for the settings they were trying to portray. As the book progressed, it got much, much better. It was an enjoyable read.

Never a dull moment!

The Lost Key is a fast-paced chill-a-minute thrill ride. Nicholas and Mike are the best pairing since, well, Savich and Sherlock or Ellison and Coulter! The action was heart-stopping and the plot well thought out. Every character was engaging and the storyline was anything but predictable. Kudos to the authors for their latest collaboration. It's a winner!
