Edward C. Smith
In the Gospel of Matthew, we read that, as Jesus was awaiting his arrest and crucifixion in the Garden of Gethsemane, he went to his disciples and found them sleeping. He asked them to tarry with him and to keep watch (Matt 26:38). ("Tarry" meant to watch and pray with him.) Similarly, here we are at the end times, and the great and awesome day of the Lord is fast approaching. Jesus is asking this question again to each and every one of us, saying, "Will you tarry with me?"
I am writing this as an encouragement for you to take your prayer life to another level. There is nothing wrong with any type of prayer, even our quick prayers that say thanks, help, or especially "I love you" to the Father. But I believe we need to advance higher and press in farther, no matter where we are currently in our prayer life. Some may not know how to get closer in prayer or take that part of their life to the next level, but remember: even the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray (see Luke 11:1). By studying The Lord's Prayer, we can tap into this same teaching Jesus shared with his disciples and allow it to enrich our own prayer lives.
