Resumen del Editor

J. A. Johnstone - niece and former writing partner of the late Western legend William W. Johnstone - carries on her uncle’s legacy with this second book from her Loner series. After his wife is murdered, Conrad “Kid Morgan” Browning hunts down the men responsible - then visits his wife’s grave in New Mexico. There, he is shocked to discover his ex-fiancée waiting for him - along with armed backup.

I Loved This Book

And I’m a grandmother too! JA has found her place alongside her uncle. I’m so happy for her that she transitioned into her rightful self.
Actually, if you do the math, JA has been doing a lot of the Johnstone writing these past 20+ years. I’m excited to support JA as she continues to hone her craft.
Pretty much this book has a similar theme to the Drifter, except I’m in love with Frank Morgan, and I’m only beginning to like The Kid.
This book is good for any age that’s able to read it, although there is quite a bit of blood, shooting and death. There’s also some good lessons to be learned, as Conrad/The Kid is a decent human being. I do wish there were more paragraphs about the horses because their personalities add so much to the stories.
I can’t wait for the next one!
And again…JA, congratulations for a great book and finally being in your right body! Your fans love you!

JA Johnstone is NOT William W Johnstone!

I’m a die-hard western frontier reader. And William W Johnstone tops my list of authors in this genre. I’ve read numerous books by him, oftentimes with the tag “JA Johnstone” added as a co-author. And from what I read, she worked alongside her uncle when he was alive and writing his books. Sadly, William W died in 2004. Still, his books are timeless and live on.

This is the first book I’ve read with JA Johnstone going solo as an author and I have to say she just doesn’t have the writing grit of her uncle. By comparison her writing is bland and lacks the vibrancy and nuances William W Johnstone never failed to deliver. By comparison, it is boring, predictable, and sometimes stretches believability. I’m only half way through the book and not sure I want to finish it. Not when I can go on the hunt and find that hard to stop listening/reading book that keeps me on the edge of my seat to the very end! I’m accustomed to other authors like CJ Petit, Louis L’Amour, Max Brand to name a few. It’s hard to compete with these guys.

BTW, I’m a grandmother that loves this genre of books so I’m in no way being sexist.

Slow, Obvious and not in the tradition of W.W.J.

This plot is slow, lacking action, and obvious to everyone except the main character Conrad Browning. This definitely missed the mark and not worth the read if you've been a solid WWJ fan. Half way through you know Conrad is being dealt a bum deal but he doesn't; to the readers frustration....not worth the time to listen or read!
