The Little (Romance) Detour is a strangers to lovers romance. When Angie’s brother Steve—a police officer—is working a dangerous case, he wants her out of town. Steve takes Angie to stay with his best friend halfway across the country. Angie knows little about her host, but what Steve tells her isn’t so great. Her brother admits that the guy was quite the womanizer back in the day, and that most recently has fallen out with all his friends. But Steve still trusts that his friend will do the most important thing—keep his sister safe.

James Cooper is in no shape to take in a visitor. He's fallen into an emotional funk and rarely socializes with anyone. But when Steve Rodriguez asks him to take in his sister and keep her safe, James has no choice but to take her in. All he can hope is that the sister's visit will be brief. Very brief.

Things are a little touch and go as Angie and James get to know each other, but Angie soon realizes that James is having a rough time of life emotionally. She’s able to give him some guidance about how to get the help he needs, and in the wake of new beginnings their feelings for each other grow. So much so that they plan to stay together. There’s just one little problem at hand. If Steve Rodriguez finds out that Angie and James are together romantically, he’ll completely flip his lid.
