New York Times bestselling author Tana French, author of the forthcoming novel The Hunter, is “the most important crime novelist to emerge in the past 10 years” (The Washington Post) and “inspires cultic devotion in readers” (The New Yorker).

“Required reading for anyone who appreciates tough, unflinching intelligence and ingenious plotting.” —The New York Times

In the “compellingˮ (The Boston Globe) and “pitch perfectˮ (Entertainment Weekly) follow-up to Tana French’s runaway bestseller In the Woods, Cassie Maddox has transferred out of the Dublin Murder Squad—until an urgent telephone call brings her back to an eerie crime scene.

The victim looks exactly like Cassie and carries ID identifying herself as Alexandra Madison, an alias Cassie once used as an undercover cop. Suddenly, Cassie is back undercover, to find out not only who killed this young woman, but, more importantly, who she was.

The Likeness is a supremely suspenseful story exploring the nature of identity and belonging.

--Entertainment Weekly

“Tana French puts a clever twist on every lonely child’s fantasy of leading a parallel life when she creates an alternate identity for her detective in The Likeness...Cassie is a character — the eternal lost child — you can really care about.

--The Boston Globe

“Savor French’s turns of phrase and simmering suspense until the prospect of finishing shuts all distractions out.”

Praise for Tana French

“When you read Ms. French — and she has become required reading for anyone who appreciates tough, unflinching intelligence and ingenious plotting — make only one assumption: All of your initial assumptions are wrong”
The New York Times

"Tana French is the most interesting, most important crime novelist to emerge in the past 10 years."
The Washington Post

"[Tana French] inspires cultic devotion in readers…most crime fiction is diverting; French's is consuming."
The New Yorker

“To say Tana French is one of the great thriller writers is really too limiting. Rather she’s simply this: a truly great writer.”
—Gillian Flynn

“French is a poet of mood and a master builder of plots.”
The Washington Post

“One of the most distinct and exciting new voices in crime writing.”
—The Wall Street Journal

“French does something fresh with every novel, each one as powerful as the last but in a very different manner. Perhaps she has superpowers of her own? Whatever the source of her gift, it’s only growing more miraculous with every book.”
—Salon.com

Loved the character. Love the narrative voice. Have read and loved all of Tana French's series ....even more in audible than on the page. But find the situation central to the plot of The Likeness (which precedes most of the others published so far) required more suspension of disbelief than I can muster.

Unbelievable

This is the kind of story I think about often and deeply. It is a stunning piece of work. SO complex and nuanced. Simply amazing. Emotional, intelligent, profound insight into human nature.

AMAZING STORY!

I know it's odd to give 5 stars overall with 4 for story and 4 for performance, but I just reacted so emotionally to the story that I couldn't help it.

The story is really interesting, and a fun idea, but is completely unfeasible. I hate it when people put spoilers in reviews, so I'll just say that there are no 2 people on the planet that look enough alike to fool intimate friends/housemates. There are several frustrating "why didn't she just do this" or "why don't they just tell this story to explain that" moments, and there are times when things seem to run on a little too long. The genius here is in the depiction of the relationships and interactions. The writing is just so wonderful. The Tana French books are so much more than murder mystery books. The descriptions of the relationships and the feelings and the looks and the settings are so good that you end up in the middle of the story. We all have these occasional, indescribable relationships that are more than close, more than friendship or family and this author knows exactly how to put them on paper.

The narrator is good. She has a pleasant soothing voice. I'm not Irish, so I have no opinion on the accent or it's authenticity. Not a huge fan of the way some of the male voices were done. Overall smooth reading and pleasant to listen to.

I absolutely loved this - but there are problems.

Such a great story and interesting characters that I cared so much about. Made me cry in the end. Didn’t want this book to be done. Loved it.

LOVED IT!

Luv Tana French!
On her game!!Not the same detective story line. You become the character!
You go undercover to the “mystery house on the hill” with four college mates to only uncover a much more then “who dun it” story.. but an interwoven friendship that draws the reader in.

Should be on “TV”!

Only in fiction could this story be told. The reader must go along with the author’s silly idea that such an unlikely event could ever take place. That being said, the author worked very hard to dot her i’s and cross all her t’s to try and make it realistically possible. Once the reader accepts the impossible, a pretty imaginable story is waiting to be heard. 4 stars to the writer to dare the impossible.

Ridiculous premise but I still listened

this is interesting because it has twists and turns but the beauty is in the relationships built and the dreamlike quality this book has. excellent mystery, excellent narrative... a joy to listen to

entrancing

Seemed far fetched at first, but I was intrigued with the characters and plot twists.

Very clever story

I didn’t think I’d get as wrapped up in this story as I did In the Woods, but I soon found myself wanting to both live at and flee from White Hawthorne house. I’ll be thinking about this one for a while. The descriptions of the characters, the relationships, the scenery, and the blurred lines of reality were realistic and gripping. I loved it

This book solidifies French as an all-time favorite author

I loved In the Woods and this one Carrie’s all the strengths; great dialogue and prose, fantastic character dynamics, and a fun mystery. Less detective work focused in a sense but with way better character focus

A strong follow up
