Resumen del Editor

The Upanishads are an assortment of texts central to Hinduism (or the Sanatan Dharma) recorded from oral traditions. They contain the philosophical principles and concepts of Hinduism, including karma (right action), brahman (ultimate reality), the atman (true Self or soul), moksha (liberation from the cycle of reincarnation) and other complex Vedic doctrines which explain Self-realization through the ancient yoga system and other meditational and service practices.

"Upanishad" is a Sanskrit word which translates to “sitting at the feet of” or “sitting down near." This alludes to receiving wisdom and guidance humbly from a realized guru.

There are more than 200 Upanishads. Thirteen of these include the core philosophical teachings of what we now call Hinduism. The philosophical concepts contained in the Upanishads are principal to the Sanatan Dharma, but many are also shared with Buddhism and Jainism.

The deeply poetic texts govern ideals of ultimate Self-realization as well as concepts of non-violence, compassion, charity and self-restraint as ethical concerns.

Beautifully presented by Jagannatha Dasa and the artists and devotees of the Vedic Preservation Society here is an audiobook which not only entertains, enlightens, and deeply informs but just might positively change your life forever, for the better.

An Essential Read to Challenge our Fickle Culture

it's really quite astounding just how brilliant a jewel of Philosophy the Brihadarnyakopinishad is. it's such an incredible collection of the very best Philosophical thought found within the Shukla Yajurveda, some of which is over 4,000 years old.
And just like any good Educational textbook, Indian Theologians, Philosophers, writers and Scientists in Ancient times regularly updated their foundational Vedic texts over thousands of years.
What you end up with is an absolutely impressive collection of deeply Philosophical thought from Ancient times that may very well be more relevant today than ever before.
Never has Society needed deep thought more than modern times.
In this Age of Kali Yuga, questions about life, society, Spirituality, human interaction and personal reflection and introspection are so incredibly necessary to avoid a complete and utter collapse of Culture and Society.
Every single day, when I open a newspaper, I read another example of how materialism, thoughtlessness, greed, shallowness, and egotism are destroying the bonds that have held the human race together for hundreds of thousands of years. Not to mention the destruction of the Earth that gaves us the nourishment we needed to make it this far as a species.
How can we expect our children to and grandchildren to have long and happy lives if all they inherit from us is a society on the verge of breakdown and a Planet on the verge of a literal meltdown???
Whenever I reflect on the biggest challenges we face together as a species in the near future, I can't help but think how desperately we need an injection of deep thought, genuine Spiritualism, and a challenge to our culture fixated on individual egotism.
What better to meet that challenge than the most brilliant collection of human knowledge and radical reflection found in Ancient Indian Philosophical thought?
The Brihardanyaka Upinishad is the just a single bite out of the apple, but it's exactly the kind of cure to today's Culture of greed and corruption we need.
Every thoughtful person, regardless of Religious preference, needs to read the Upinishads and then march their asses down to their Local Schools and begin demanding that they teach something that will actually encourage our generations of Future Leaders to challenge the very worst aspects of today's Culture. Getting our young adults accustomed to reading important Cultural works such as the Upinishads would be one little baby step in the right direction!
So if you have that same sense of dread about the future of the World that I do when I turn on the News or open a Newspaper, than you really need to read this Upinishad!
Believe me you won't stop there!
