Resumen del Editor

Tragedy and terror threaten one brave Jewish girl during the Holocaust in this inspiring war story about never giving up.

Fourteen-year-old Rivka Resnik survives the brutal massacre of her family in Lithuania, only to spend the rest of the war fighting as a partisan against Nazi forces, then surviving as a prisoner in Auschwitz. Finally rescued and sent to America, Rivka soon faces the SS officer who commanded the death squads that murdered her family. Now, it is Rivka’s turn to become the hunter.

In this historical thriller set during the Holocaust, author Tom Reppert masterfully depicts one young woman’s harrowing experiences across Europe and the United States.

Great book

Great story. It was a little hard because the narrator was hard to get ahold of in the beginning. She got better. Highly recommend.

Revenge how sweet it is.

Set during WWII with all the things that happened during that war. I enjoyed reading it from both perspectives. A Jewish girl, and American and British. Much historical content went into this book but only on the stories basis. It was a good read and kept me reading on and on.

Could have been Great

The story was superb, the writing and plot will presented. This could have been a great read except for the narration. The narrator, with her often breathy and overly dramatic performance made for a very difficult listen. I think a better and more appropriate narrator would have easily earned this a 5 star rating.

Sooo very good!!

This kept me so on the edge of my seat. It’s different than, Beneath a Scarlet Sky, but equally as good. The narrator did an excellent job at the pronunciations of the German language.

What a great audible book

Many elements to it. Happy family life destroyed by the war and survivors picking up the pieces. My favorite genre is ww2 historical fiction. But this listen was brought to life by the great narrator ms Patricia santomasso. I knew very little about Lithuania and the nazi atrocities there. Had to look at a map several times. The main character was so brave and strong. And never gave up on objective to find her family’s murderers. I will seek out more from this author

Superb Story You Must Experience for Yourself

The Light at Midnight by Tom Reppert is, in a word, superb. I'm not a student of history. It never was a strong suit of mine at school, and when given a chance, I dropped it in favour of a different class. That said, I'm not ignorant of the atrocities of the second world war, but even still I was unprepared what lay within this book.

This is a masterfully crafted story that explores life's nuances under threat of Nazi extermination, yet doesn't hold the punches when it comes to delivering the emotional body blows.

Rivka is an unrivalled heroine - surviving mass execution, starvation, being hunted down at every turn, the horrors of concentration camps, yet coming through it all. Her white-hot burning hatred fuelling her vengeance, keeping her alive one more day to exact retribution on those who killed her family. Her friends. Her people. Nemesis incarnate, with a singular mission.

Told from the perspectives of Rivka, and alternatively the Nazi SS officer Max Bauer who made it his personal mission not to disappoint the Führer. Bauer takes a sadistic, inhuman delight in his mission of killing every Jewish person he can find.

While it's easy to disconnect from Bauer's chapters, it's not so easy with Rivka's. Told through her eyes, voiced by Patricia Santomasso to come across to me half-whispered, half-conspiratorial, kept you right there with her, making the experience visceral. The delivery was perfect and fitted the story well.

Incredible, and kept me hooked to the very end. I hated every time I had to stop listening, I wanted to plough through the story in one sitting, but life isn't like that. I needed to know revenge was delivered.

This is an emotionally charged work that you need to experience for yourself. Highly recommended.

Poignant and suspenseful

This is a suspenseful story of vengeance and retribution, poignantly told, with some very compelling characters excellently portrayed through Patricia Santomasso's narration. If you're up for hearing another Holocaust story, give this one a listen.

Well Worth Your Time

At first I was unsure about starting a book set during the Holocaust time period, but soon I was fully engaged. The characters are such full personalities and the plot is NOT predictable that I kept listening. The performance was superb and the story satisfying. I highly recommend The Light at Midnight and Tom Reppert’s other books, too. This is his third audio book with voice actor, Patricia Santomasso that I’ve heard. Boy, is she talented. Tom Reppert’s stories are fantastic! I’ll start The Far Journey, next.

Midnight

It was interesting and had, what I consider, a relatively good ending for a book about WWII and the Holocaust.
