"I love you. I’m sorry. Please, forget me."
For Jacob and Hannah Riley, the plan was simple: find an affordable place, flip a house, and build a brighter future out West. But when their search leads them to the crumbling Appalachian town of Victor’s Point, the couple quickly realize they’ve stumbled into something far more sinister.
Beneath its quiet facade, Victor’s Point hides unsettling secrets. Strange lights prowl the skies, friendly faces conceal dark intentions, and Hannah begins to manifest abilities that defy explanation. As the lines between reality and deception blur, unsettling questions arise: Why were they drawn to Victor’s Point? Who are the blue-eyed strangers that lurk beyond their windows? And how can they protect their family when their minds are no longer their own?
The Rileys came to Victor’s Point seeking a new beginning. What they find could end everything.

From the very beginning, Farrant crafts an atmosphere of palpable dread. The story of Jacob and Hannah being thrust into the heart of the paranormal phenomenon is masterfully paced, escalating from unsettling moments to truly frightening scenarios. The narrative has a chilling authenticity, in part because the author expertly weaves in genuine theories and ideas from the paranormal community. For fans of the subject, hearing these elements utilized in such a sophisticated way is an absolute joy. It gives the story an anchor in the "real" world, making the supernatural intrusions all the more visceral.
What sets this book apart is its brilliant tapestry of perspectives. We experience the phenomenon through the eyes of novices like the main protagonists, the fervent enthusiasm of the "fan boy" character, and the cool, analytical lens of the professional researcher. This comprehensive view gives the book a depth that elevates it beyond standard genre fare. In fact, the only other work that comes close in scope and atmosphere might be a classic like The Tommyknockers, but The Light Between Us surpasses it with a more focused and intensely gripping execution.
And then there's the ending. The last hour of this book is absolutely devastating. Farrant clearly set out to create an ending that would fuck people up, and he succeeded brilliantly. It's the kind of conclusion that demands silence afterward, forcing the reader to sit and process the weight of what they've just witnessed. This isn't just a horror novel; it's a testament to the power of the genre to truly challenge and shock its audience.
The Light Between Us is, at its core, a love letter to the paranormal world, delivered with terrifying grace and intelligence. It's a gripping, immersive, and unforgettable read. If you're looking for a novel that is genuinely scary and will stick with you long after you've finished, do yourself a favor and pick this one up. Incredible work.
