Ninety-seven people have vanished in Liberty County over the past forty-eight years. No bones or bodies have ever been found. The prevailing theory is they were all runaways, even though none of the vanished ever contacted their loved ones again. But that’s not good enough for ex-Seattle Detective Hoyt Stanton. He decides to find out what really happened. The vanishings began with Linda Rose in 1972, and with the help of the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department, he identifies and investigates an initial list of suspects.

A chance visit with a former Missing Persons Officer with a different opinion leads him in another direction and another possible suspect. When his friend Game Warden Kay Birch discovers the remains of a woman in a remote mountain location, the case thickens and brings him face to face with a new group of suspects who are involved in the legal marijuana trade, psychedelics, and Navajo skin-walking.

After the Sheriff’s Department orders Hoyt to drop his investigation, he doubles down and makes a shocking and grisly discovery that puts his life and the lives of his friends in mortal jeopardy. If he fails in his quest for justice, the secret of the vanishings will be hidden in the mountains forever.
