Tremendous story

I was riveted right from the start, and it did not disappoint throughout. I will definitely recommend to all my friend.

Good but...

It's a great story but I'm realizing how little patience I would have in Jeanie's place. I got SO FRUSTRATED with Piper through the whole book. And it obviously wasn't her fault that she was so brainwashed but MY GOD. The obvious lies and her loved ones giving her real reasons to question what she was told and she's like, naw, I love my parents, they are gods. *screams in frustration*

The ending is sad and beautiful and I'm relieved because I wasn't sure she was going to get there.

The thing about cults is their clear hypocrisy. You can't blindly trust anyone, except me, the Cult Leader. You can't have sex or worldly possessions. But I can because I'm the Cult Leader. You must suffer and starve but I need my strength to lead you idiots. The hypocrisy is so blatant but they explain everything away. I get so angry. Don't you??

Anyway...it brought me to tears in the end and I recommend it if you can get through the Rollercoaster of emotions.

solid for true crime fans

the perspective the book takes is so interesting because we know she’s in a cult, but she doesn’t. it was so interesting, albeit mildly heartbreaking, to see her slowly uncover the reality of her life. not necessarily my favorite book of all time, but if cults & true crime podcast are your thing you’ll definitely like this one

Must listen for anyone who’s been manipulated or controlled

Enjoyed the Story and was fascinated by the authors notes at the end. It’s very healing listening to other peoples traumatic storys from life and how they’ve overcome and healed.
I absolutely LOVED Melissa Moran’s narration of this book. I will look for more books read by her.

Deeper and More Constructive Than I Expected

If you have read the book synopsis and it sounds interesting to you, then I highly recommend you get this.
I’ve read several true cult stories (such as Jonestown), as well as read about the psychology of them. This novel puts a relatable human face to those types of situations. I was also impressed at how the situations were laid out without feeling like they were associated with any particular “real world” group or cult, thus giving a feeling of relatability without the probability of ruffling any feathers.

The story is well written, accessible for a wide range of reader experience, and I highly recommend.

The descriptions of how Piper felt during her experiences and memories was very well described. As someone who has dissociative moments in my life, I started unexpectedly connecting with Piper and also relooking at my own ways I have tried to deal with it in the past. So if you get this book and find yourself struggling to listen to it because of the subject matter relatability, please seek someone to safely and healthily help you. You are not alone.

great read!!!

I bupassed this book several times but im SO glad I didnt bypass it today!!! Ive been missing out on a wonderful book!!!

Wow!! So good!

This is really a sad story, what was done to these ppl and the mental health issues it caused, but the story is sooo good. It had me wondering the whole time what should happen and making me not want to put the book down at all!! And how brain washed these people were and how sad that was. Excellent book! Wish I could give more then 5 stars and narrators great too!!

Could not stop listening

This was a great book, I listened to the whole thing in less than 24 hours. I loved the “before” and “after” points of view.

Wow

I found this book suggested after I read a book called, Corrine. The “cults” that follow religion are insane. I felt so awful for Piper as she tried to figure things out. It was such a great book.

brainwash

Very interesting read. Felt so sorry for the kids, that they were living in fear of those who said they love them. I will never understand how you can be cruel to kids.
