This radio dramatization of the classic movie Morroco (which also starred Marlene Dietrich in an Oscar-nominated role) originally aired on June 1, 1936.

The Lux Radio Theatre was one of radio's most popular series, attracting Hollywood's top stars and boasting a lavish budget. It began in 1934 by featuring dramas from Broadway, but there was not enough material to support the show. In an attempt to reverse the slipping ratings, the show was moved to Hollywood in 1936, where there was plenty of material and talent. In fact, filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille often served as the host.

This audio version of the movie "Morocco" omits the wonderful nightclub scenes. I enjoyed hearing the voices of Dietrich and Gable, but three advertisements for soap cut into the running time.

I was very interested in listening to the first production made in Hollywood. Every time I listened to this production I fell asleep. Clark Gable does a good job but Melene Dietrich sounds thoroughly bored. I never did actually reach the end of the story. I gave up.

I usually enjoy Lux Raduo productions…
