Acerca de esta escucha

The product of a lifetime's reflection, The Last Escaper is Peter Tunstall's unforgettable memoir of his days in the British Royal Air Force and as one of the most celebrated British POWs of World War II.

Tunstall was an infamous tormentor of his German captors. Dubbed the "cooler king" on account of his long spells in solitary, he once dropped a water "bomb" directly in the lap of a high-ranking German officer. He also devised an ingenious method for smuggling coded messages back to London. But above all he was a highly skilled pilot, loyal friend, and trusted colleague.

Without false pride or bitterness, Tunstall recounts the hijinks of training to be a pilot, terrifying bombing raids, and elaborate escape attempts at once hilarious and deadly serious--all part of a poignant and human war story superbly told by a natural raconteur. The Last Escaper is a captivating final testament by the last man standing from the Greatest Generation.

How quickly we for get the sacrifice of so many for out freedom

A good memoir, but Ben Macintyre’s book on Colditz covers it more holistically. However, the Epilogue offers a fantastic counter argument to those who criticize Bomber Command for their strategy in WWII.

Epilogue is worth reading

incredible

This was a really entertaining book - not deep, not for the person looking for thoughtful history, just a good yarn, in the spirit of the Colditz stories, or the Douglas Bader's "Reach for the Sky". The narration was also perfect for the story. What amazes me about these books, all of which follow a similar style, is their understated non-chalance; I imagine it was the times. Anyway, if you're looking for entertaining tale along the lines I've described, then this is well worth the investment.

Informative, interesting and funny despite the seriousness of the subject. My only regret is that I did not read it ealier.
