Fantastic
Another wonderful read from Max Adams. So much detail! Hamilton McCloud’s audio is also superb. He brings the story to light and really nails Adams’ quips.

Fascinating

Not like First Kingdom! This book is not about Oswald.
I was hyped up since he’s described as a Beowulf and Aragorn inspiration. But he’s hardly mentioned! The whole book is about church politics over anything else, there is no detail about any secular happening of the time, and no mention of the Whiteblade or Blessed Arm monikers getting earned. Everything in here was interesting for someone I’m sure, and this book is an essential read for anyone interested in the history of British Christianity and the Irish church (well researched), but it’s not what it claims to be.

Maybe Should Have Been Titled Differently
I felt like I learned very little about Oswald of Northumbria. The book seems to spend more time on everything else during the time period and very little on the subject himself. The narrator does his best to bring the material to life though.
