Edgar Cantero finally has something new out in English (after the bitter disappointment of /Heaven Park/ not seeing the light of day). This time it's four short stories in audiobook form only, but audiobooks can be fun too and the voice acting here is solid. And the stories range from body-horror revenge, to straight-up progressively creepy something's-not-right-here horror (the one I remember when I wake up in the middle of the night), to a quietly introspective maybe-eschatological exercise (perhaps my favorite), to a glorious wish-fulfillment power trip with some twists here and there.

I picked this up as soon as I saw the blog post, just in time for a 9000-mile car trip. I listened to it twice during the drive, and if I'd been on the road any longer, I probably would have listened to it a third time.

Short stories don't have the scope for exploring relationships that novels do, and that's always one of the big attractions of Cantero's work for me; but even the hints he can work in are satisfying. And these pieces are nicely gripping and punchy. Horror isn't normally a genre I indulge in, but this one was well worth acquiring.
