Reunite, four old pals - Scully, Doc, Robbie, and Donald - in an allegedly haunted and isolated shelter. All this amid the creaking bonds of an alliance built in the amber whisky haze of their misspent youth. Throw in the ashes of a departed friend and give them a simple mission, then anything could happen and frequently does.
The Key-Stone of the Bridge is a very Scottish tale, full of chills, thrills, mystery and suspense, as in beautiful and unusually calm winter weather, the four men complete their task.
Then well, things start to get a little strange.
The mountains are usually deserted in winter but two visitors appear seeking shelter and tell of meeting a mystery hiker. That night has some strange goings on but they blame that on the whisky. Then when there is no sign of the mystery hiker, the four decide to look for him or his body. But the weather deteriorates, their misfortune grows and they return to find their sanctuary gone.
Will they struggle through to reach civilization and finally discover the truth about their guests and the mystery hiker?

Narrated in the mother tongue, the wonderful description of the scenery and the conversation among old friends transports the listener to the magical world of the bothy.
The characters were endearing and I certainly felt, by the end of the story, that I would love to have a beer or two with Doc.
Full disclosure I am British and so I was familiar with some of the Scottish slang and this was a free copy.
That said, I would recommend this book. A great pick especially if you are traveling to Scotland for some hiking and whiskey.
You will want to go hiking in the highlands!!

When I learned of the audible being released with the original author on the mic, I had to check it out and I wasn't left disappointed. There is always a risk that an audible version won't live up to the high standards set by the written version. I am a firm believer that the narrator can make or break it and Craig Meggy has done a wonderful job here with the Key-Stone of the Bridge. Craig delivers an edgy performance in full blown Scots tongue, which makes this book ooze with originality and rawness from the onset. I had an image in my head when reading it the first time of some of the varying Scottish accents and it was fantastic to experience those accents brought to life by the author. He absolutely nailed them!
Great story and delivered in raw Scots tongue

As the weekend unfolds some really funny exchanges of slang and humor ensue as Robbie clumsily tried to explain the shambles of his marriage to the group.
What keeps you listening is the authors skillfully paced narrative as visitors to the mountain hut aren’t all they appear to be.
Funny, sad and an intriguing end to the story.
“Train Spotting” meets an episode of the Twilight zone and a fabulous read!
Highly recommend it.
