The author of the J R Murders remembers his own childhood in Brooklyn when Jackie Robinson was a godly brown figure in a Dodgers uniform – before the Dodgers absconded to Los Angeles, where the outfield pebbles were known to be small but made of gold. It hadn't been easy for Jackie as the first Black (Negro then) to play in the major leagues. Branch Rickey, the owner of the Brooklyn Dodgers, knew what he was getting into and once decided, he went full speed ahead.
