If ever there were anywhere that someone who was suffering from a mental illness or behavioral disability should expect to be welcomed, it would be at our religious institutions. Sadly, however, that is often not the case. In The Inherent Worth and Dignity of ALL Individuals: Encouraging Full Participation in Our Unitarian Universalist Congregations, Bobby Newman attempts to create a framework for helping religious institutions to consider the needs of people with mental illness and behavioral disabilities, along with the needs of the rest of the congregation. A framework is described for helping to strike a balance that will protect the rights of all concerned, and help religious institutions come closer to living up to their stated principles. This book provides a rational, nuanced, and balanced discussion of how a wide variety of differences and disorders can create murky ethical conflicts in a congregation along with respectful advice for how to resolve them. The author is fully aware that there are no answers which will please everyone equally. But he does his best to consider the good of everyone involved - those with behavioral health challenges and those affected by them - and to nail down in specific terms how to achieve the greatest mutual good. Unfortunately, from the very beginning, when the AI read the ISBN number because it didn't realize audiobook narrators would usually skip over that, to the very end, when it robotically recited the bibliography for seven minutes, I regretted not buying this in eBook. If you can read this visually, do.

This book deserves better than to be read by AI
