The Infinity of Intimacy explores “Evolution: The Love Story of the Universe,” which is understood as the evolution of intimacy itself. One example of this evolution of intimacy is the movement from biological family to a deeper, “evolutionary intimacy” that includes but also transcends traditional forms of relationships. Marc Gafni discloses how we can include and transcend the bonds of biology into a greater “evolutionary family”—a space where irreducible Unique Selves recognize one another as part of a larger, cosmic symphony. It is before your evolutionary family that you are called to confess your greatness and live out and into your “deepest heart’s desires.” These are not your ordinary or surface desires but your clarified desires, which by their very nature are your deepest heart’s desire.
The framework for the conversation is what Marc calls the New Universe Story of the Intimate Universe. Evolution here is understood not merely as the progression from simplicity to complexity, but as the progressive deepening of intimacies. The intensification of intimacy as it deepens, widens, and becomes more full is itself the journey from Homo sapiens to Homo amor, the birth of the possible new human and the new humanity. The notion of the Intimate Universe is part of a core dimension in the articulation of a new “Story of Value” for global culture, as a response to the meta-crisis.
The oral essays collected in The Infinity of Intimacy offer a radical reimagining of how we define our place in the evolving Cosmos.
