Acerca de esta escucha
While on a fishing trip two men discover the ruins of an old house perched on the very edge of a cliff. In the ruins they discover an old manuscript that seems to suggest the house was once involved in something super natural, and horrific.

There is a book that is shrouded in mystery. Some even say it's a myth. Within its pages is a play - one that brings madness and despair to all who read it. It is the play of the King in Yellow, and it will haunt you for the rest of your days. The King in Yellow is a collection of stories interwoven loosely by the elements of the play, including the central figure himself.

Perhaps Blackwood's most celebrated story, The Willows was influenced heavily by his own trips down the Danube River. It tells the story of two campers who pick the wrong place to sleep for the night, a place where another dimension impinges on our own. H.P. Lovecraft considered this the finest supernatural tale in English literature.

FNH Audio presents a complete and unabridged reading of H.P. Lovecraft's famous story "At the Mountains of Madness". The story is related by one of the two survivors from a polar expedition. Unlike other polar explorers who may have died from cold, starvation or simply getting lost, in this story things are somewhat different. The survivor is desperate to prevent a new polar expedition because there are "beings" there, strange murderous beings.

For the first time ever, the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society has produced an audio recording of all of Lovecraft's stories. These are not dramatizations like our Dark Adventure Radio Theatre - rather, this is an audiobook of the original stories, in all-new, never-before-heard recordings made by the HPLHS' own Andrew Leman and Sean Branney exclusively for this collection. This collection spans his entire career from his earliest surviving works of childhood to stories completed shortly before his death. All tales include original music by HPLHS composer Troy Sterling Nies.

Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

E.R. Edison’s The Worm Ouroboros inspired the epic-fantasy that followed him. This production is of the first edition (1922). The Lords of Demonland are celebrating Lord Juss’s birthday when an envoy arrives from Witchland. He brings demands from King Gorice XI of Witchland that the Lords of Demonland “kiss his toe, and acknowledge him to be their King and they, his ill-conditioned, disobedient children”. The Lords of Demonland reject this utterly and, to settle the matter, they challenge King Gorice to a wrestling match against their champion, Lord Goldry Bluszco.

Machen's novella The Great God Pan is often cited as one of Lovecraft's most notable influences. In it, Dr. Raymond's ultimate goal is to devise a way to open the mind of man so that he may experience all the world has to offer. He calls this "seeing the great god Pan". After much study of the human mind, he devises an experiment that involves minor brain surgery. He performs this experiment on a young woman named Mary, but when she awakens she is terrified and mentally crippled.

Historia
There is a book that is shrouded in mystery. Some even say it's a myth. Within its pages is a play - one that brings madness and despair to all who read it. It is the play of the King in Yellow, and it will haunt you for the rest of your days. The King in Yellow is a collection of stories interwoven loosely by the elements of the play, including the central figure himself.

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Now, after years of corruption and decadence, Elric’s amoral cousin Prince Yyrkoon, the brother of his beloved Cymoril, sets his eyes on the Ruby Throne. Thomas Ligotti’s debut collection, Songs of a Dead Dreamer, and his second, Grimscribe, permanently inscribed a new name in the pantheon of horror fiction. Influenced by the strange terrors of Lovecraft and Poe and by the brutal absurdity of Kafka, Ligotti eschews cheap, gory thrills for his own brand of horror, which shocks at the deepest, existential, levels.

Great bit of cosmic horror.
Vary good story with some great imagery. Hodgson really knew how to build an atmosphere of dread. he maybe didn't have the best grasp on phisics but then that may have just been the times. at least there's no mention of none euclidean geometry lol.

Good story, fair reading.
Good, atmospheric story of cosmic horror. The reading, although clear, is largely uninflected and monotonous.

Has the reader never heard of emotion?
There are several versions available, choose a different one. This performer seems to be half asleep even when the narrator is screaming in terror. Turned this great classic into a looong slogging snooze-fest

Needs more swine
Is there anything you would change about this book?
More swine! I was really into the initial set-up where the main character is maybe going mad or maybe being attacked by swine creatures. But then the swine recede and there's never any real follow-up on them.
What was most disappointing about William Hope Hodgson’s story?
The lack of any follow-up on his potential insanity. Is he off his rocker or is this William Shatner's Twilight Zone episode? We never really know.
Any additional comments?
This was a fine performance and I am sure fans of H.P. Lovecraft would want to read/hear this as it is so clearly an influence on his writing. For me, I was pulled in early but then got kind of bored. If you are going to read/listen, I recommend a dark and stormy night for full effect.

Good narrator, funny, author smoked the good stuff...
Overall, I'm glad I read this book. At times, story seemed to drag on, but was very interesting. Some creepy moments.

Great narrator, OK story
Great narrator, interesting example of "weird tales" genre, though the story becomes somewhat tedious at points. I found Hodgson's Carnacki stories more enjoyable.

Amazing to see what influenced Lovecraft
Sure, it doesn't stand up to the standards of modern writing or storytelling, but this is still a fascinating early tale of cosmic horror that gives the reader some new context with which to read Lovecraft and his contemporary heirs.

Presently
The word "presently" is used so many times and it became really annoying. Presently, the book may be the catalyst for cosmic horror, but, presently, W.H.H. could have taken some notes from an editor.
Presently, the audio is great.

If you like this genre of cosmic horror and do not balk at a slow burn, read it
This book was written by a true master of the craft. Despite the age of this book I think it holds up as a powerful tale of cosmic horror. It is a slow burn. Though, the author skillfully gives us a tease of what is to come right at the beginning so during that slow burn you are assured it will be worth it.
That slow burn begins heating up in intensity and hits a point of critical mass and you find yourself devouring page after page not being able to turn the page fast enough to keep up.
It eventually becomes quite trippy.
This is all the more impressive considering that as far as I know this is one of the earliest books of this type. Predating even Lovecraft.
If I had any critique at all, it would be the ending felt just the tiniest bit unfinished and over too quick. That said, this is me being extremely nit-picky holding it to a super high standard.
Does this make my lofty and exclusive favorites list? Honestly, I don't know. If it doesn't, it is definitely standing there just outside of the gates. I am already looking forward to rereading it at some point which is high praise. I will let it sit for a while and ruminate for now.
This is certainly a good book to ruminate on after reading.
If you like this genre of cosmic horror and do not balk at a slow burn, read it, you will not be disappointed.
