Resumen del Editor

Sebastian Prendergast lives in a geodesic dome with his eccentric grandmother, who homeschooled him in the teachings of futurist philosopher R. Buckminster Fuller. But when his grandmother has a stroke, Sebastian is forced to leave the dome and make his own way in town.

Jared Whitcomb is a chain-smoking 16-year-old heart-transplant recipient who befriends Sebastian and begins to teach him about all the things he has been missing, including grape soda, girls, and Sid Vicious. They form a punk band called The Rash, and it's clear that the upcoming Methodist Church talent show has never seen the likes of them.

With storytelling that is fresh and vivid, The House of Tomorrow is destined to become an instant classic.

“An honest, noisy, and raucous look at friendship and how loud music can make almost everything better.” ( Publishers Weekly)

The House of Tomorrow

The House of Tomorrow is about a sheltered boy cared for by his grandmother who is raising him to save the world, through the teachings of Buckminster Fuller. Through a series of events, he is befriended by a punk rock kid. The interactions between these two young boys are hilarious. Sebastian is naive and practical, and has a hard time following the sarcastic remarks made by Jared, who has been through more than the typical teenager.

The audio version is very well done. The narrator captures the innocence of Sebastian and the sarcastic tone of Jared perfectly.

GIVE THIS BOOK A TRY!

GIVE THIS BOOK A TRY!

Without going into too much detail. . .

A boy, Sebastian Prendergast, forced to be a recluse, living in a dome with his grandmother. A unique friendship sparks between the boy and another boy, who also is forced to be a recluse of sorts due to a medical condition. A story about the boys’ friendship and their bond over punk music, the relationship with his grandmother as well as a few other people, and what it’s like for him to finally get out and explore the nearby town and live as a teen. Other subjects touched in the story: 1) Mental health after medical complications. 2) Facing the “harsh world” and coming into adulthood. 3) First love, first crush. 4) Marriage and Divorce, kids & parents dealing with the situation. 5) PUNK MUSIC. 6) Finding your own voice. 7) Discovering your family history.

I would love to read more about Sebastian’s life and where it goes from here. Hoping for a follow-up novel, fingers crossed!

FYI. . . there is some swearing, but nothing you haven't heard on TV and it's not very often.

Friendship

Sebastian lives in a geodesic dome in in Iowa with his eccentric Grandmother. She's sheltered him and homeshooled him so he's a bit eccentric himself.

To make ends meet they give tours of the dome and it is thus that Sebastian makes his first friend his own age.

This is the story of their friendship and family. It's definitely YAish, and I thought I was bored a couple times, but quickly got over it and ended up liking it quite a bit. Cute and enjoyable.

Lots of references to Buckminster Fuller ... who I know nothing about. LOL
