The fight to free the Earth from alien domination began in Live Free or Die, and continued in Citadel. Now Tyler Vernon and his troops aboard the gigantic battle station Troy face a desperate battle with the forces of galactic tyranny. And the very survival of the Earth and its people is not all that is at stake. The galaxy itself must choose to live free or die - and if the tyrants win this battle, darkness will fall across the galaxy for millennia to come.

If you're looking for terrific military sf, John Ringo delivers again. Definitely sets you up for next volume. And the story unfolds into new characters and story lines. Although I kind of miss the hardy New England souls in book one, the new folk make up for the lack. Not for tofu eaters though.

Hot action at the Hot Gate

Would you consider the audio edition of The Hot Gate to be better than the print version?

No idea. I have only listened to the audio and not read the book.

What other book might you compare The Hot Gate to and why?

This is definitely in the military sci-fi genre, but both the time period (near future) and the political elements make this series a bit more unique.

Which scene was your favorite?

The space battle that takes place at the book's climax is very good of course, but I also very much enjoyed getting a peak at the enemy viewpoints. I hop the series continues to show us how the Rangora see things.

Any additional comments?

It remains true of this book, as others in the series, that the author is heavy handed with his political views and some might even be offended by some of his themes. He takes the idea of American exceptionalism and pumps it up to a galactic scale. Even when I agree with some of the authors basic ideas I found them a bit off-putting. Still, the book is very good and worth the time. Unlike others, I found the cultural plot with Parker to be very interesting and even exciting.

Much Better than Reviews Indicate

Many have complained about the lack of action in this third installment. It is true, this book focuses far more on the dynamics of different earth cultures having to work together in the defense of earth and expansion into space. Some of Heinlein's best was when he put people into SF scenarios to see how they would behave and that is what happens here.

There is a lot of build up and talking with no action for a long time. When the action does come hold on to your hat because the battle is great. I just wish he would hurry up with a fourth book.

Sorry I let poor reviews delay my reading this.

Another enjoyable read. The author does go overboard with abbreviations which gets a bit frantic at times. But beyond that minor point- get read for amazing technical detail (drool) common sense space play and a heck of a story to go with it.

More please.

Love the detail.

I love this series. I wish there was more. Every emotion was brought out of me. I wish there was more.

Amazing
