The book of Romans in the Bible is probably the most powerful and complete book on theology ever written. And there is a good reason for that; it was written by God, the Holy Spirit, through the Apostle Paul. And two chapters in this book are two very powerful chapters concerning God the Holy Spirit and the sovereignty of God. In chapter 8 we see how the Holy Spirit works in the life of a Christian. He is with us at the moment of our salvation and stays with us until our dying last breath. He, the Holy Spirit, is God with us since He is God. I think the Holy Spirit is sometimes forgotten and maybe even unknown as the third person in the God head. He is so important in our Christian lives but is also probably the least thought of. Paul points out His work in our lives in chapter 8.
Chapter 9 of Romans tells us about the sovereignty of God and about His election, predestination and choosing those for salvation. It is a doctrine which just might be the most controversial topic among the Christian community. But Paul goes through this topic and very carefully outlines and describes God’s authority in His choosing. God’s sovereignty is another attribute many in the Church might never have heard of or have never heard it talked about from the pulpit. It is one of the most important doctrines in the Bible and maybe the most controversial.
This book covers these topics and is simply the authors thoughts and beliefs on the scripture within these two chapters. Although it does go through the two chapters in a verse by verse, passage by passage type of exposition, it is not meant to be a commentary. It is just a telling of how God works in our Christian lives through His Holy Spirit and also His sovereign authority in our lives and in this world.
