Resumen del Editor

What do women want? The same thing men were promised in the Declaration of Independence: happiness, or at least the freedom to pursue it.

For women, though, pursuing happiness is a complicated endeavor, and if you head out into America and talk to women one on one, as Jill Filipovic has done, you see that happiness is indelibly shaped by the constraints of gender, the expectations of feminine sacrifice, and the myriad ways that womanhood itself differs along lines of race, class, location, and identity.

In The H-Spot, Filipovic argues that the main obstacle standing in between women and happiness is a rigged system. In this world of unfinished feminism, men have long been able to "have it all" because of free female labor while the bar of achievement for women has only gotten higher. Never before have women at every economic level had to work so much (whether it's to be an accomplished white-collar employee or just make ends meet). Never before have the standards of feminine perfection been so high. And never before have the requirements for being a "good mother" been so extreme. If our laws and policies made women's happiness and fulfillment a goal in and of itself, Filipovic contends, many of our country's most contentious political issues - from reproductive rights to equal pay to welfare spending - would be swiftly resolved.

Filipovic argues that it is more important than ever to prioritize women's happiness - and that doing so will make men's lives better, too. Here, she provides an outline for a feminist movement we all need and a blueprint for how policy, laws, and society can deliver on the promise of the pursuit of happiness for all.

Organized, Informative, and Inspirational

I found myself referencing this book over and over in conversation with folx. Had been anxiously anticipating the audiobook version and was so delighted to listen. Highly recommend.

Bias Challenging and Interestingly Biased

Parts of this book forced me to question long held ideas, and others made me wish I could ask follow up questions if the author. I wonder if there were sources in the paper copy of the book. Lots of hearsay and small sample size, in addition to unsourced (in the audio book) research.

Comprehensive

I loved how the book was organized touching on many nuanced issues affecting women in today's society. I also appreciate that the author realizes that these issues affect women of different social class, race etc quite differently and that this book does not contain all the facets; however it's a good start.
It is also not a man- hating book. in fact, men might benefit and understand their partners and women in society better by listening to this book.
phenomenal and informative book!

How to think like an intelligent woman

The "H" to me means "Her". in the book it means happiness but it's a play on words, which I actually think undermines the overall theme but I understand the need for a catchy title. what I really liked most is that for once in my life I felt like I was inside the mind of an intelligent woman, but that doesn't mean the book is good. It could be much better if it was written less monotonously. also the narrator and the author, who are the same person, is not necessarily the best recipe for success in terms of what they're saying sometimes comes off as condescending and arrogant.

This book is so interesting and a great combination of well-researched and personal. I wanted to read it again the moment I finished the book. Highly recommended for all women and all people who support women.

Boring and irrelevant

Content was all over the place. Data and research seemed googled with no real seriousness behind the statements.

Just one long negative complaint with no positive call to action.
