Resumen del Editor

The Great Anti-American Novel is a memoir written by a confessed mass-murderer in an offshore federal detention facility. The narrator's penetratingly satirical story centers on his small family coming together and being ripped apart by a global economic and cultural collapse that triggers a second American civil war, setting up the events that ultimately result in the Dante Thompson and his adopted sister Sylvia orchestrating and carrying out an explosive, blood-gushingly violent retribution for the tragic and untimely deaths of their heroic father and former nation.

Is America on this path of destruction ?

A chilling story about a future America wrapped up in civil war following the collapse of the government after decades of mismanagement by the Baby Boomer generation. Donatelli says what many millennials are thinking...are America's greatest years behind us? What lies ahead....and if the American Dream is rejected by the millennials, could a class/generational civil war occur? What would happen to the future of our nation and new government?

A great thought-provoking read

Wow, what an amazing book! I had a little bit of a difficult time getting into the style for the first chapter or so but once I was in, I did not want to slow down. It is a story that will stay in your head and yet is hard to fully explain due to the complexity of the tale.
The characters as well as their specific back-stories were all well described, which helped to give a complete sense of where they were coming from and why they had to make the choices they did. Dante/Big Boy, although a confessed mass-murderer, was an extremely likeable character. His intelligence, committment to his family and honesty made it hard not to support his cause.
Although taking place in a dystopian future society, the setting of this book does not seem so far out of the realm of possibility.
It was a very thought-provoking, well-written book, that will truly make you think about society, American culture and politics. I truly enjoyed reading it.

Love it!

What made the experience of listening to The Great Anti-American Novel the most enjoyable?

The story was the best part. Though, I prefer to have a book in hand so that I may go back and reference characters or refresh my mind to different points, this is easier when you are holding the book.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Miss Thompson, her nickname is the same as mine.

Have you listened to any of Michael Dukes’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Sounded fine. But I was more interested in the story than how the person sounded.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It was long so I don't think it could be listened to in one sitting.

Any additional comments?

I am confused as to why this reviews seems to be mostly about the fact it is an audible book instead of being a review of the story itself. I loved the story. I really have enjoyed all the writings that I have experienced from the writer, Dan Donatelli. Great mind, great writer. I have read many short stories that I received personally in the past. Thanks Dan for being a writer.

A savage tale with a lot of soul

Daniel Donatelli weaves a savage tale of life after America tears itself apart from the inside. The novel itself is not so anti American as it is a warning of the consequences of letting corruption take over power and incompetence take over spirit. It was not a perfect tale as I found Donatelli's well crafted vocabulary find its way into characters that should not have been speaking so eloquently. Though I was occasionally taken out of the story through such instances, the soul of the writing always shown through these parts and kept me listening. There are multiple noticeable audio in cuts that also caught me off guard, but in the end the narrator does the job needed to get the story across.
