The Governess and the Duke

Once the cherished daughter of a respected and affluent family, Emma Haverleigh is left penniless and grieving after her father’s sudden downfall and death. Armed only with her sharp mind, thorough education, and biting wit, she is forced to seek employment as a governess—an unthinkable descent for a woman raised to attend salons, not serve in them.

Her post takes her to the stately home of the Duke of Westmoreland, a brooding widower whose young daughter is as unruly as she is clever. Though Emma intends only to survive her new station with dignity, her quick tongue and fearless intellect soon capture the attention of the duke himself. Their exchanges crackle with tension, each encounter a battle of wills, and something far more dangerous.

As forbidden feelings take root, Emma must choose between the safety of restraint and the peril of a love that defies every rule of class and convention.

Great Short Story

A short romance. I love the quick and dirty romances just as much as I like the long drawn-out romances.

Short and Sweet

This is a well written, very sweet story. There’s not a lot of depth, but how could there be when the story is so short. It’s just a charming tale of two people falling in love and finding their happily ever after. A great pallet cleanser after reading a particularly long or emotionally involved book. I enjoyed it! It is a clean/closed door romance.

The narration through virtual voice is surprisingly good. I’ve certainly heard human narrators that did far, far worse.

Dull

A bit dull. The hero and heroine deserved each other. They were both boring. The hero had no personality.
