Resumen del Editor

The Gods of Mars is the second book in Edgar Rice Burroughs' famous Barsoom series. At the end of the first book, A Princess of Mars, John Carter is unwillingly transported back to Earth. The Gods of Mars begins with his arrival back on Barsoom (Mars) after a 10-year hiatus, separated from his wife Dejah Thoris, his unborn child, and the Red Martian people of the nation of Helium, whom he has adopted as his own. Unfortunately, Carter materializes in the one place on Barsoom from which nobody is allowed to depart: the Valley Dor, which is the Barsoomian afterlife.

I love the Mars series!

The Mars series was the first book series to fully captivate me and start me binge reading. I read the Mars books and then Tarzan and The Venus series by Edgar Rice Burroughs when I was around 12-14 years old (almost 40 years ago.) It kept me reading until the early hours of the morning. Now my young children are listening to these audiobooks with me and loving them. My 10 year old daughter always keeps on me to put John Carter on when we get in the car. I wish the whole series was on audible!

The narration is distractingly bad

Another reviewer said that the narrator only speaks in all CAPITALS. That reviewer couldn't be more right. It's as if Mr. Delloro speaks with capslock on at all times. This voice suits action scenes, which there are many, but it does not change for the non action scenes and becomes distractingly annoying to listen to.

I WANT MORE of Barsoom!

If you have even touched this series by Edgar, you have to listen to this. Again Peter really pulls out all the stops and captures each characters essence. I strongly recomend you listen to them in order.

Fun and Exciting!!

What made the experience of listening to The Gods of Mars the most enjoyable?

My husband and I grew up with Edgar Rice Burroughs stories and this presentation was very enjoyable.

What did you like best about this story?

I enjoyed the entire book.

What does Peter Delloro bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?

John Carter is supposed to be from the Mid West and Peter Delloro's accent while reading this book was perfect and it made you feel that John Carter was talking to you.

Any additional comments?

I recommend this book and the whole series to everyone, it is the type book kids can listen to and enjoy.

Pick another narrator

Great book but I had to search for another version due to the poor quality of the narrator.

Choose another narrator for this book

What would have made The Gods of Mars better?

It feels like the narrator, Peter Delloro, is yelling at you the whole time, or at least talking very loudly. There is no fluctuation in his voice. Every word is at the same volume level and I couldn't make it through the first chapter. Try one of the other narrators for this same book so that you can have a better listening experience.

Awful narration

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would recommend this book in a heartbeat, if read by a different narrator. This narrator mispronounces words, reads every sentence as if there were an exclamation point at the end and generally ruins the story. I find myself doing two things while listening: first, making fun of his style and second, translating his words as if they were read by a competent narrator.

What other book might you compare The Gods of Mars to and why?

This is a typical ERB book. Well written, somewhat predictable but the rewards of a good ending are worth their weight in CD's

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Peter Delloro?

B. J. Harrison

Did The Gods of Mars inspire you to do anything?

Look for the sequel, as read by a more competent narrator
