In the tradition of Arthur Machen's classic "The Great God Pan" and John Farris' novel of creeping rural horror ALL HEADS TURN AS THE HUNT GOES BY comes award winning fantasy author D.A. Madigan's THE GOD OF HOOVES & ANTLERS
Deenie hasn't seen the family farm where she grew up since she got the hell out almost a decade before. But the death of her hated grandfather imposes family duty. The disposition of his estate requires the presence of his only living relative. Intending to stay only long enough to take care of necessary legal details, Deenie arrives back at the creaking, ominous old farmhouse whose gloomy interior has featured in so many of her nightmares over the course of her life.
The endless acres of thickly tangled, heavily timbered woodland her grandfather had owned which surround the farmhouse, barn and other outbuildings, where much of the earth has not been touched by sunlight in centuries, also reawakens the feelings of profound dread she had felt growing up here as a girl. Most fearful of all is the old, scum covered pond in the center of the woods, which has always seemed to Deetie to be somehow... hungry....
As a child, the vast majority of the dark goings on in the town of Staggland and on her own family's farm were beyond Deenie's ability to comprehend. Now, though, as she returns to her family's ancient home, fully grown and the only heir to her recently deceased grandfather's holdings, Deenie begins to awaken to the sinister truths and dark horrors underlying the strange whispers and weird traditions she vaguely remembers from her childhood.
For Staggland is a place of much more than nostalgic, sweetly recalled childhood memories. It is a piece of land soaked in blood and pain, darkness and ritual horror, a world of its own where pagan sex magics and sacrificial rites still occur by the dark of the moon, and horrors from beyond human history yet cry out in the night to be fed.
