very informative...

If you could sum up The Genius of Dogs in three words, what would they be?

excellent book but for my purposes...i skipped most of part 2 and would have skipped part 1...part 3 really got to what i was looking for...not saying the first 2 parts weren't informative but again for my interest...they were far too detailed...

Wonderful book on the recent research on canine intelligence and how they processes information. Just confirms what I have know these 60 long years....but no one believed. A little tangental at times but still a good read.

For those that need to know more about there canine friends....

Very interesting especially for dog owners

Insightful book with a good description of a way dogs think and perceive the world.

The science behind is quite young though and some experiments don't look solid because of a small amounts of data analyzed.

But still it's probably the best of existing books about dogs psychology, so definitely recommended for anybody who own (or wants to own) the dog. Very useful information!

Science as a Work of Art - Genius!

I am a canine professional, as well as one of those people who are crazy in love with their dogs. I so enjoyed learning about how dogs particular forms of intelligence came about as a process of co-evolution with the rise of humans over the last 15000+/- years. I'm especially glad that we're learning how to recognize canine intelligence, and understand its strengths and limitations. My hope is that we'll become much better at generating realistic expectations of our dogs, and developing new ways to maximize the potential for how dogs and humans can make one another's lives better. Brian Hare's book is a giant step in the right direction, and I'm grateful to have read it!

He had me until he started quaoting from HSUS

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes--the information is interesting and something that a more-than-casual pet owner will find informative.

What does Fred Sanders bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He has an easy voice to listen to and reads with understanding rather than just to read words.

Any additional comments?

The information about Skinner and Operant Conditioning was interesting, but the complaints about dog training based on what is in the chapter on one attendance at one conference is not a strong point, showing a limited information about how more advanced trainers and dog owners are training dogs.Considering that The Humane Society of the United States wants to prevent any animal ownership and spends most of the money it earns fund raising on political activism, salaries, and retirements instead of on animals (this information can be verified, I'm not just ranting here), I am surprised that the author went to that organization and to its CEO Wayne Pacelle for the information about the problems with the way people in the US treat dogs. If the HSUS has its way, the wonderful relationship people have with dogs wouldn't exist any longer. Including the two AR organizations and no others as sources was a big mistake and takes away from an otherwise important and interesting read..
