Robert W. Tompkins began writing these short pieces as a reward for people who liked the Hagenspan novels, and wished for a bit more. He also hoped to use them as teasers to get people to read about the Hagenspan world without having to commit to a whole book, in the hope that they would be favorably impressed with what they read and return for more.

This is by far some of the best writing that the author has yet produced. In the shorter format, he has become more precise and evocative with his choice of words, and the reader receives these bonus stories as little gifts spotlighting characters and places that you once knew--picture postcards of Hagenspan, if you will. The image on the front is wonderful, but the real treasure is to be found in the scribbled pencil markings on the back of the card.
