Kahlil Gibran (January 6, 1883-April 10, 1931) was a Lebanese-American artist, poet, and writer whose inspiring works are still widely read and enjoyed throughout the world.

The Forerunner, published in 1920, was written three years before Kahlil Gibran's best-known work, The Prophet, and is a book composed of his developing spiritual ideas of both poetry and prose.

Gibran's popularity grew markedly during the 1960s, with the American counterculture and then with the flowering of the New Age movement. His work has remained popular with these and with the wider population to this day.

Since The Prophet was first published in 1923, it has never been out of print, has been translated into more than 40 languages, and is one of the best-selling books of the 20th century in the United States.

The Forerunner was released into the public domain in April of 2017.

Not the Prophet, the Forerunner

Would you consider the audio edition of The Forerunner to be better than the print version?

You can see a print version online, but the audiobook is a great way to listen to the story.

Anyone who is a fan of Khalil Gibhran’s The Prophet will enjoy The Forerunner. Much like the Prophet, the Forerunner is a collection of poems, parables, and short stories told in colorful language.

Any additional comments?

This audiobook is unique because the narration begins with background music by Fluidscape which is relaxing and calming. Much like guided meditation, the narrator with a soothing voice reads the passages. Each chapter begins with a slight gong and the title of the next story or poem begins. I appreciated the gong and that the narrator definitively states the beginning of the next passage which is helpful when there are so many different stories.

While I have enjoyed reading Kahill Gibran on my own,I found this version to be irritating.I felt like I was in a yoga class with the soft voice and gong.Kitty Hendrix is a good narrator but this text really needed a mans voice.I was provided this book by the author, narrator or publisher.

Spritual, but rather humanistic at the same time

Gibran's work touches upon the ancient mysteries of love and wisdom of the ages long ago...Its a humanistic vision of ancient biblical and spiritual times in and around Lebanon and the Jordan Valley. The music gives it sort of New-age twist, but the teachings (if that is what one wants to call it) seem to be a bit off to me; a bit too mystical. It strikes me more as poetry than that of religious thought.
