Brynja Danelsdottir never dreamed of being a Valkyrie, but the Fates have their own designs: Bryn’s plans to escape her family’s poverty and travel the world are destroyed when she gets pregnant by the chieftain’s son, and her once-lover betrays and kills her.

Despite the progress she makes in her training, when Bryn discovers that her murderer is on the verge of becoming king in her homeland, she steals a flying horse and returns to the human world to settle the score, only to find herself caught up in the consequences of abandoning Asgard and returning to Midgard as a vengeful spirit.
Now Bryn must find the truth of the dangers that threaten not only her, but those she cares for in the human world, and her newfound community in Asgard. Many perils stand in her way: giants and dire spirits, schemes and treachery - and something far worse that even now begins to thaw from the primordial ice of the Void.
But if Bryn can survive and claim her place amongst the Valkyries, a new home – a new purpose – waits for her in the world of the gods.
