Within the capital, a thriving metropolis erected by the human race along the southern expanse of Terram, a veteran mining crew finds a mysterious relic deep within the Azuran mines. Believing this to be an omen, commerce sector councilor Merad Mayler will stop at nothing to succeed the role of lead councilor. After seeking the aid of a highly favored speaker, Wynn Reynolds, and an eager commerce guard recruit, Cade Noch, Merad believes he finally has all the pieces needed to put his schemes into motion.

Meanwhile, ripples of the discovery beneath Azura are felt in distant lands. Guided by divine forces, Tunis, a young Qari female from the small coastal village of Fayne, and Nadim, an Eidonian male from the hidden island of Sanctuary, find themselves thrust on a journey through unknown lands in a desperate attempt to save their homes.

Will their efforts be enough to stop the power threatening to destroy everything they know and love? Or will they only live long enough to see the world burn before their eyes?

I spent every spare moment of the past few days listening to The Fire Beneath Azura—I couldn’t help myself. The author feels very seasoned in his skills to narrate, tell a story, and keep readers captivated. As someone who has listened to over a thousand books in the past eight years, it was surprising to discover that this was the author’s first book. :-O. I cannot wait for the next book. The only negative from my perspective is that the book is not written for a wider/younger audience; “adult” content and language are found through the book…NOT PG, if you know what I mean. Great work John!

The Fire Beneath Azura by John Griffin is an excellent adventure fantasy. Rylee Kierra and Eric Fox did an amazing job with the narration. The story is entertaining, interesting, enjoyable, adventurous, and more. The Fire Beneath Azura is the first book in The Buried Gods Saga. So things should not be forgotten but there are others that should stay buried. Decide what should happen in this story. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. Highly recommend.

Fantasy

I honestly didn’t expect to get pulled in as quickly as I did, but the fire beneath Azura completely hooked me. John Griffin has created a world that feels so alive – it’s full of mystery, magic, and a real sense of wonder. You can practically feel the heat intention simmering beneath everything, just like the title promises.
The characters were a big highlight for me. They’re complex, flawed, and super engaging. I found myself caring about what happened to them way more than I expected. And the story itself? Full of surprises. It moves at a good pace, and there’s a nice balance between action, emotion, and deeper themes, like identity, power, and a connection to the natural world.
The writing style is really smooth, poetic at times, but still easy to follow. It gives the book this almost myth like feeling without getting bogged down and overly flowery language. If you’re into epic fantasy with a fresh vibe and a strong storytelling, definitely give this one a shot. I’ll be watching for Griffin’s next book for sure.

I received a code for this audiobook to leave a review. I tried getting into it but even though I'm interested in the story, I'm not a fan of the language and graphic and comment sex that's starting to appear. I couldn't finish the book because I was taken by surprise with one sex scene that ended with a character being choked into unconsciousness. Not my cup of tea and not someone that I want to continue to finish reading.
I wanted to learn about the possible government corruption and the magic deep in the earth. The story is unique but I couldn't get past the vulgar language and sex.

Story is good, not my favorite style of writing
