Resumen del Editor

Martha Gellhorn (1908-1998) was a war correspondent for nearly 50 years. From the Spanish Civil War in 1937 through the wars in Central America in the mid-'80s, her candid reports reflected her feelings for people no matter what their political ideologies, and the openness and vulnerability of her conscience. "I wrote very fast, as I had to," she says, "afraid that I would forget the exact sound, smell, words, gestures, which were special to this moment and this place." Whether in Java, Finland, the Middle East, or Vietnam, she used the same vigorous approach.

Collected here together for the first time, The Face of War is what The New York Times called "a brilliant anti-war book".

©1936, 1937, 1938, 1940, 1941, 1942, 1943, 1944, 1945, 1959, 1966, 1967, 1983, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988 Martha Gellhorn. The reports on the War in Spain, the War in Finland, the War in China, and the First World War first appeared in Collier's; the report on the War in Java appeared in The Saturday Evening Post; "The Paths of Glory" in Collier's; "They Talked of Peace" in The New Republic; "Suffer the Little Children" in Ladies' Home JournaI; the reports on the War in Vietnam and the Six Day War were published in The Guardian (London), and the articles on Wars in Central America in The New Statesman (London). Crisp, intelligent, at times terrifying

I picked up this book after seeing it in the film 'Prvate War' about Mari Colvin who admired this writer. she was right. Covering many of the meaningful wars of the 20th century, one would argue THE wars that defines it - The Spanish Civil War, WW2, Vietnam the writer presents us with how a person who grew up after the Great War saw things. it is a courageous book and the prose is clear and powerful. It is also fullly supportive of Israel. Having seen the Nazis up and close, she is unafraid to stand up for the one Jewish state on Earth. Wish she was better read and known.

Remarkable Journalist

Many people are possibly familiar with her being one of the wives of writer Ernest Hemingway but in her own right she was one of the most brilliant and prolific investigative reporters of the twentieth century. In this work Gellhorn takes us from war in Spain, many areas of campaigns in WWII, the middle east as well as Viet Namn, South America and although not a war the disaster of Chernobyl. Some of her reporting and interviews were so damning and explosive they were not even published in the news media. She told it like it was, interviewing the people who were effected by the events. Perhaps the administrations of the leaders of the United States were afraid of the truth. This was an eye opening series of interviews and a legacy of a journalist who braved the dangerous areas to get the story told for the people of the world. Very revealing a remarkable collection of her stories. Highly recommend.

The narration of this book ruined it.

The narration was HORRIBLE, I kept thinking to myself is this being done by Siri... I looked back at the app many times and to see if there was a person's name for the narrator. Unfortunately the narration takes from the great story of the book.

It seems that the book was written with passion and emotion, but the audio book was seriously lacking of both, I couldn't finish the book. The only good thing that came from this book is me going to the library and reading it myself.

AGAIN the narrator will put you to sleep. Narrations can and do make and break a book.
