Most of us have heard at least one old adage about personal finance or psychology at some point in our lives. "A penny saved is a penny earned”, "money can't buy happiness", “diversify”, or “no sunk costs.” But how many of us stop to ask ourselves whether these pieces of advice are really true?

Think of the countless popular books that claim to offer sage financial or psychological advice distilled in a simple easy-to-remember catchphrase or a colorful anecdote.

The author of this book, however, argues that much of this advice is little more than "fancy bullshit." The book goes through these popular books one by one, examining their claims and the resources that back them up. Ultimately, the author argues that much of this so-called wisdom should be abandoned in favor of humility and common sense.
