Siege of Terra Book 8, Part 3

It all comes down to this final confrontation – the Emperor versus the Warmaster. The father versus the son. After 63 novels and a slew of short stories, omnibuses, audio dramas, and more – this is the End and the Death.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

The Horus Heresy series reaches its dramatic climax. After years of civil war, the Emperor and Horus clash aboard the Vengeful Spirit in an epic battle of blades, wits, and wills. See how the greatest conflict of the age plays out, and follow fan-favourite characters from across the saga as they desperately try to influence the outcome.

THE STORY

The Great Angel, Sanguinius, lies slain at his brother's hand. Terra burns as reality itself unravels, and the greatest bastion of civilisation teeters on the brink of annihilation.

Desperate defenders gather, banding against the rabid traitor hordes. The Hollow Mountain, host to the pilgrims of Euphrati Keeler, is one of the last redoubts held by the Dark Angels while the unclean host of Typhus lays siege. Malcador the Sigillite sits ablaze on the Golden Throne, trying to buy his master more time. But time is running out...

Guilliman races across the stars to reinforce the Throneworld. Will he return to ashes, where a Warmaster of Chaos has ascended to godhood, or will the Emperor have triumphed? And at what cost?

I have mixed feelings. while it's finally done and the hours heresy now told, it was a story told with so much stalling and bloating. but I cannot envy the task left to Abnett as he has to tie all the loose ends of a 50+ long series with legions of rabbid fans who are waiting with knives drawn looking for validation for their favorite 30k/40k characters. I do love so many of the references and deep cuts. they're fun. it's good for fan service. but as a well told story? it just takes too long to unfold. there's so much time spent on arcs and narratives that aren't really that important. and while we were hoping for some truly lore subverting stuff...I didn't see much of anything that truly changed anything. sure there's clarity about certain points but largely is anything really changed? no. I don't think so. it's just an unwieldy and cumbersome ending to a series that took too much time to develop, a victim of its own success and profitability. but Abnett does better managing every spinning plate better than anyone else could.

and of cours, Johnathan Keeble is outstanding. he is the one true voice of the Heresy. he makes the story come to life so effectively.

if you're into this stuff, you've already bought the book and listening to it a second time. if you're not into 40k and Warhammer, this is NOT the place to start.

it's finally done...

Half the content is just easter eggs & fan service to other 40k lore without actually tying off any loose ends

Good Saga Finish but Overdone

I was 19 years old when I started reading the heresy and words can barely convey the way that this series has carried me through my twenties and my early thirties. I think Mr Abnett gives a lot back to his fans and closes this series in his regular fashion. I'm glad that I was able to experience this series for everything that it is and was and I'm just happy that it's everything we were told it was going to be.

A very satisfying conclusion to the longest running series in BL history. This is a worthy final chapter of the Siege, itself an inevitable conclusion of the Horus Heresy. Grandmaster Abnett brings those numerous threads to a conclusion but not always clear-cut and literal. Some of it is groundwork for what we know from 40k including bits and pieces for the beloved "Abnettverse".

I was there, the day Horus slew the Emperor.

Sad that it’s over but an absolute banger of an ending, be warned this book is an emotional roller coaster!

Excellent
