Acerca de esta escucha
While all saints are exceptional, St. Veronica Giuliani is a case apart. The sheer number of charisms she was graced with—which included raptures, locutions, visions, diabolical struggles, and the stigmata (to note a few)—are unparalleled even among the saints. Padre Pio himself, also a Capuchin, kept an icon of her in his cell, and considered her his patroness.
When she was seventeen, St. Veronica entered a Capuchin Poor Clare monastery. There, she longed to suffer more and more with Christ. During moments of rapture, she was given the carrying of the cross, the instruments of the Passion on her heart, to drink from the chalice of bitterness, the crowning of thorns, the transverberation of her heart, and the reception of the spousal ring. She received these mystically, though they manifested as physical wounds on her body. The climax took place in 1697, when Veronica received the stigmata—the wounds of Christ—on her hands, feet, and side.
For over thirty years, St. Veronica Giuliani meticulously recorded her life story and extraordinary spiritual experiences. Three months before she died, she had filled 11,000 pages. In her Diary, at times, she comes across as the novice mistress or abbess guiding the sisters. Other times, she reveals messages given to her by Christ. In other entries, she graphically describes the mystical sufferings she endured.
In her life and Diary, ultimately what is revealed is the beauty of the Gospel and a woman madly in love with God—“set on fire,” in her words. Before she died, she told her sisters to tell everyone that “Love has been found.” This is the message of St. Veronica Giuliani that informs her writing.
May the fiery love that St. Veronica Giuliani found illuminate your heart as you begin reading her Diary.
Statements made by Popes, Cardinals, and Theologians:
“St. Veronica Giuliani is not [just] a Saint, but a giant of Saintliness.” (Bl. Pope Pius IX)
“She is such a great luminary of Saintliness that in and of herself, she would be enough to illustrate the Church, in contempt of the mockery and slander of the most superb and biting philosophy of the unbelievers.” (Pope Pius VII)
“She was endowed with such extraordinary graces that only the Mother of God was more ornate.” (Pope Leo XIII)
“What the virgin Veronica wrote, certainly with the help of God, will be of great profit to those who study to acquire Christian perfection.” (St. Pope Pius X)
“St Veronica Giuliani invites us to develop, in our Christian life, our union with the Lord in living for others, abandoning ourselves to his will with complete and total trust, and the union with the Church, the Bride of Christ.” (Pope Benedict XVI)
“The extraordinary favors granted by God to Veronica were explained by her with that clarity and exactness of expression which render the Diary ‘one of the most classic treatises on sacred mysticism.’” (Card. Lucido M. Parocchi, Secretary of the Holy Office)
“The Diary is a catechesis, a doctorate, a permanent mission, which the Vatican II Church cannot and must not ignore, if it wants to unleash all its energies of renewal.” (Card. Pietro Palazzini)
“She is the most sublime and necessary subject of study that has been produced after the Gospel.” (M.F. Benjamin Dausse, Académie des Sciences, Paris)

How would you describe your prayer life? Saint Paul urges Christians to: “Pray without ceasing.” (1 Thess 5:17) Do you pray without ceasing? Do you thank God for a new day when you rise? Do you ask God to protect you and guide you throughout your day? Do you seek God’s wisdom and courage as you encounter challenges, trials, and opportunities. Do you beg God’s forgiveness when you rebel against him? Do you long to spend more time in the presence of the Lord? Do you praise the “lover of your soul” with your every breath? The Diary is an amazing narrative that chronicles the experiences of a simple, uneducated Polish nun who received a special call shortly before the outbreak of World War II. Our Lord appeared to her and instructed her to spread the message of his Divine Mercy to all, especially in our current age, which is full of so much distress and worldliness. The message of the Divine Mercy is that God loves us all of us. And He wants us to recognize that his mercy is greater than our sins, so that we will call upon him with trust, receive his mercy, and let it flow through us to others.

Padre Pio was born in a rural, farming village. He entered a Franciscan order centered on harsh penance and radical poverty. He lived more than fifty years in a mountain hermitage. And yet, everyone has heard his name. But few know who Padre Pio truly was. In his latest work, Bret Thoman has pierced the life of Padre Pio in a novel way: through a pilgrimage to all eleven Capuchin friaries and sites where the stigmatic saint lived. With Pietrelcina as his base, Thoman sets out each morning to the "Convents of Padre Pio." He accompanies the reader into these special places with captivating ...

Lucia Fiorentino (1889-1934) lived a hidden but extraordinary life. She was one of the earliest spiritual daughters of Padre Pio. She was also a mystic, victim soul, and recipient of numerous charisms, such as visions and locutions. In 1906, she had a vision of an immense tree planted near the Capuchin friary in her native village of San Giovanni Rotondo. Then she heard a voice: “This is the symbol of a soul who is now far away but will come here. He will be strong and well-rooted like this tree and will cover the entire world with its umbrage.” When Padre Pio arrived in 1916, she ...

Thus writes 16th century Spanish poet and mystic, St. John of the Cross. In this, his third work, the author reflects on the nature of a personal union with Christ, found in the abandonment of self.

Historia
Fr. Gabriele Amorth is considered one of the most important figures in the Italian Catholic Church. Not only was he a renowned exorcist, he was a journalist, a noted theologian, and biblical exegete. The recent Hollywood film about his life (though highly embellished) has only added to his mystique. Behind the man was a powerful faith. He could not have performed exorcisms for thirty years without supernatural aid. Toward the end of his life, while retired in a rest home in Rome, he revealed his secret: the Rosary. For years, he had an unpublished book that he kept in a drawer of his cell ...

"We are to love God for Himself, because of a twofold reason; nothing is more reasonable, nothing is more profitable." On Loving God is first a touching description of God's love for us as unmistakenly demonstrated in the death of His Son. Second, it is a call for us to joyfully respond to God like the child who runs and embraces her father whose love is sure. As St. Bernard writes, "They love all the more because they know themselves to be loved so exceedingly."

Adolfo Affatato is one of the last living spiritual sons of St. Pio of Pietrelcina. Recently translated into English, “Padre Pio and I” is the culmination of what he witnessed as he sat by the saint’s side for sixteen years. This is not a typical biography by a journalist, friar, or academic; instead, the author presents “the Padre” intimately and personally -- as a father figure who tenderly guided and directed him. This book is filled with riveting new accounts of the mystical side of Padre Pio: from the moment Affatato was called by name by Padre Pio out of a crowd to Padre ...

Historia
In the late 19th century, Father Charles Arminjon, a priest from the mountains of southeastern France, assembled his flock in the town cathedral to preach a series of conferences to help them turn their thoughts away from this life's mean material affairs - and toward the next life's glorious spiritual reward. His wise and uncompromising words deepened in them the spirit of recollection that all Christians must have: the abiding conviction that heavenly aims, not temporal enthusiasms, must guide everything we think, say, and do.

Historia
Padre Pio of Pietrelcina is perhaps the single most extraordinary saint in the modern history of the Catholic Church. His heart was pierced. He carried the wounds of Christ on his hands, feet, and side for half a century. He communicated with his spiritual sons and daughters through bilocation and mystical perfume. He read the souls of his penitents. He offered his suffering so that others might be healed. He built one of the most significant hospitals in Southern Italy. Most importantly, Padre Pio wanted others to be redeemed. In Bret Thoman’s latest book, he has created a fresh, new ...

Historia
The Interior Castle, also titled The Mansions, is a classic work of Christian mysticism by St. Teresa of Ávila. Published in 1588, the text serves as a practical guide for those who wish to achieve mystical union with the divine. Teresa viewed the soul as a “castle made of a single diamond”, which contains seven mansions or dwelling places. The concept of the immanence of God - who dwells in the seventh mansion - was central to her spirituality.

Have you ever wondered how the holy creator of the universe engages in a personal relationship with rebellious humanity? For, we read in Scripture: “You are not a God who delights in wickedness; evil will not sojourn with you.” (Ps 5:4) And, again we read that God’s “eyes are too pure to behold evil.” (Hab 1:13) Does God cover or remove our sin? When and how does this occur? Do people cooperate in this process? Catholic theologians have searched the Scriptures, reasoned, and written about this matter for almost 2,000 years; and Bishop Francis Patrick Kenrick (1796-1863) surveys ...
