Acerca de esta escucha

David is trapped in the suburbs of Ashburn, forced to serve as the supernatural enforcer for his master, Ahriman. He's starting to get the hang of his demonic body and his new role. And then he sees a human dressed like a monk kill one of the nastiest, baddest demons he's ever encountered.

Sybil recognizes the human for what he is - a demon slayer. Most demons think that slayers are only a myth. But, as David discovers, they're deadly real, and one of them is on the job in Ashburn with a mission to kill all the demons he can find. And he will, unless David can stop him.

Everyone’s favorite suburban demon with the soul of a human returns. Well, if no one else’s favorite, at least he’s my favorite. The author builds on the mythology introduced in the first book, adding perhaps a bit more levity, this time around. I found myself giggling out loud at the description of a carload of hangry demonic beings, driving into an adventure. There are numerous engaging characters in this suburban hellscape—from demons to ancient gods to angels to zombies to a witty jinn—but I think my favorite is the main character’s pet demon dog—it leads me to imagine my own 6 pound chihuahua as a demonic canine, ready to bare her scimitar-sharp teeth at any perceived threat.

The narrator is just as entertaining here as he was in the first book. He’s darkly serious, when the story calls for it; then drily hilarious, when humor is the point. I’ve been looking for other books he’s performed that match my tastes. In the meantime, I look forward to the performance he brings to book three.

My favorite moment in the story? When you meet the internet troll, you’ll know…

Suburban fantasy with a smile

I loved the first book, and the second did not disappoint. Layne is starting to flesh out the characters he introduced in the initial installment, so we begin to learn more about David, Sybil and the mysterious Ahriman. There are plenty of new and strange characters, powerful enemies to battle and surprising alliances forged. The narration is outstanding, and the story is well paced and engaging. In all and excellent listen!

Number two rocked! (Sophomore slump my a**)
