The writing was well done, but the overall message was too conflicting for me. "You should be happy every day, not just one weekend a year." The relationships in this book were very messy and those elements didn't bother me at all. There was plenty of psychoanalysis to show depth in the messiness and qualify the actions of some of the characters, but I don't think that everyday happiness is a realistic outlook in a marriage. Normal marriages go through hardships and it's not always happy. That message basically sets up every marriage to fail. "I'm not happy, I'm leaving," instead of working through some of the hard stuff. Unfortunately, that was the overarching message in the book and I couldn't relate.
The other thing I didn't care for was the emotional manipulation in the story. Yes, I was sad, but I was also frustrated that it made me sad. I saw the ending coming half-way through the book. This was while I was still considering how I felt about the questionable actions from the characters.
Again, I enjoyed the writing style and would try something from this author again, but the overall story in The Day We Met wasn't very satisfying.

Can't stop crying
Such a powerful love story with a sad ending. Although I don't condone cheating but this story melt my heart. I felt so bad for Stephanie. Wished things would've ended better for her.

A thoughtful love story with characters that seep into your heart
First the performance by Leslay and Hawkins was perfect. They really made the main and secondary characters come to life.
Roxie Cooper is a new author to watch. Her understanding of people and their motives is fantastic. This novel covers a great deal of time in a relatively short book, but, it’s done so well it feels seamless. The characters have flaws and are in the throes of an extramarital affair for most of the novel, but, the reader is drawn to love them, flaws and all. Life is more complicated than winning and losing, right and wrong, and Cooper captures that complexity and the yearning to be loved for who we really are with aplomb.
I do my best to avoid books that make me sob buckets of tears, but, this one, that snuck past my radar, was very worth it. Do yourself a favor and read this book.
